What's the status of this foreclosure? I'm hoping they will close it down completely soon. There has been an increase in residency in this area and just last Sunday night someone was shot on Currier street, one block away. My drive home is still so scenic when crossing Pine street, seeing people pissing in the street, throwing trash everywhere, and having complete disregard for the people who actually PAY TO LIVE IN THIS AREA.

The crime, panhandling, and dumpster diving has to stop NOW! SoNo needs to be revitalized and this homeless shelter is STILL holding the area back from becoming a true safe community.

There has never been a bigger eyesore to such a potentially great area in Atlanta than the Pine street shelter. It's like a cancerous tumor.

Finish the foreclosure and get rid of them, PLEASE!! Crime will continue until it is closed and the dirt is swept off the streets and MOVED SOMEWHERE ELSE, FAR AWAY

Sadly, the shelter and their apologists are digging in for a long and expensive fight against the City, Central Atlanta Progress and anyone else they can find to sue. It is going to get VERY ugly this time around, I'm afraid.

I agree with everything you've stated. I know a couple of people that used to work at Dogwood. This crap is absolutely killing that great restaurant.

And before anyone claims I am anti-homeless, I am most certainly not. I am however extremely anti-Pine Street Shelter and ever moreso anti-Anita Beatty and the rest of the wackjobs that have a supposed hand in running this cesspool.

According to one of the city council members they are working with the shelter to relocate the men who live there (Of which there are several hundred). Count me as another very interested resident hoping the day is soon that the shelter is shut down.

Without armed off-duty cops guarding the door and patroling the parking lot, they won't last a month.

I'm glad that people want to invest in and better the neighborhood, but this will never fly at this point in time - sadly.

What I find sad is that the Gateway Center is not even full.

They offer a real hand to people that want to change their situation, as does the Union Rescue Mission behind the Aquarium.

The "residents" of Peachtree-Pine don't seem to be interested in any of that.

The latest issue of Atlanta magazine has an interesting article related to this. The director (Anita Beatty) allowed one of their reporters to sit in on a meeting with the "staff" of the shelter. The entire meeting consisted of finding creative ways to keep the police and code enforcement from gaining access to the building.

Remember they said the majority of their customers will be civic center attendees and people still go to events there + with some luck the shelter may not be there much longer.

I as amazed at some of the things she has said in recent months relating to the foreclosure and the shelter. She seems to have no idea of how ownership and the law work.

I really hope they make a go of it, but I'm just not seeing it. I would love to be wrong, however.

I see that developing every day. I agree that without the shelter closing, the business will fail quickly. It looks like a cool place though. The block is unfortunately too sketchy still. Just ask the people at O'Terrills Irish Pub.
