Martin Luther King High School.
Stacy Abrams High School
Barack Obama High School
Kamala Harris High School.
Al Sharpton High School
Or (since this controversy over the Wheeler High School name is unlikely to go away with racial and ethnic minorities only continuing to grow as the majority percentage of the population of the area), the current Cobb County Board of Education (if they were so inclined) could always just rename Wheeler High School as “Sope Creek High School” after the beloved scenic geographical feature that meanders through the area right by the school.

Renaming Wheeler High School after a beloved nearby geographical feature like Sope Creek would take the immediate stream out of the controversy over the current Wheeler HS name while leaving the decision to change the name of the school to honor a less-controversial public figure up to a future version of the Cobb County BoE... A future version of the Cobb BoE that probably would be more likely than not to be controlled by Democrats based on the strength of Cobb County’s rapidly shifting demographics.

Excellent thinking, B2R. Just name it Sope Creek and stick a fork in it.

This is a great idea. Using anyone's name always has the possibility of offending someone who may not agree another's politics or ideals

I was actually thinking just the other day that Sope Creek High would be a great name if they were to change it.

And still think Grady, since it was to be renamed, should’ve be renamed Piedmont High instead of “Midtown.”

That wouldn't make sense, since there is already a Sope Creek elementary that feeds into both Walton and Wheeler.

Maybe but the general idea of non political is a very good one.

Yeah, I don't disagree there.

I'm not a fan of the idea that not wanting things named after confederate generals means everything needs to be named after generic geographic features. Feels a bit like sour grapes to me.

That’s a good point that there is already a Sope Creek Elementary School.

But it’s not at all unusual for multiple different schools of different grade levels within a cluster or of different types (i.e., public or private) within a local community to have the same name.

Some select (or numerous) examples of this are found in various other metro Atlanta communities like:

> Gwinnett County, where Brookwood Elementary School feeds into Brookwood High School; Duluth Middle School feeds into Duluth High School; North Gwinnett Middle School feeds into North Gwinnett High School; Norcross Elementary School feeds into Norcross High School; Shiloh Elementary School and Shiloh Middle School feed into Shiloh High School

> Walton County, where Loganville Middle School and Loganville Middle School feeds into Loganville High School in an area where there’s also a private school named Loganville Christian Academy

> Paulding County, where East Paulding Middle School feeds into East Paulding High School; and South Paulding Middle School feeds into South Paulding High School

> The Buford City Schools system, where Buford Academy and Buford Middle School feed into Buford High School

> Cobb County, where North Cobb High School and North Cobb Christian School share the same name and are located only about a mile away from each other on the same road (Old Highway 41)

> Henry County: Stockbridge MS/HS; Dutchtown ES/MS/HS; Ola ES/MS/HS

> DeKalb County, where there are numerous examples of different schools of different grade levels in the same cluster having the same name (Chamblee MS/HS, Tucker MS/HS, Druid Hills MS/HS, Columbia ES/MS/HS, Redan ES/MS/HS, Stone Mountain ES/MS/HS, Cedar Grove ES/MS/HS, Stephenson MS/HS, Lithonia MS/HS, Dunwoody ES/HS)

In the case of Wheeler High School, even though there is already a Sope Creek Elementary, Sope Creek would be a good new name for Wheeler High School because Sope Creek is a beloved geographical feature that is notable in the area that much of the whole community may be likely to agree on as a school name.
