Does anyone know what would be the best parts of Decatur city to live in with commuting to Shepherd Center on Peachtree? Are there any more accessible for this commute or all about the same? Thanks so much.

I think its all about the same. The City of Decatur is only 4 miles in radius.

Thanks- do you think it would be a bad commute? We've been going nuts deciding what part of Atlanta to settle in. I had hoped to be closer to work, but this area looks the best for many reasons. thanks again.

I make that trip quite often, usually taking backroads, and mostly utilizing N Decatur/Rock Springs Rd.
It's about a 1/2 hr drive, and a lovely one...I pass through Druid Hills, Morningside, Piedmont Heights and Ansley Park on the way.

Thanks LovinDecatur for the info! Do you think that one area versus another in Decatur gives any significant location advantage for the commute? Thanks again!

I live in the NW quadrant of the city, so I don't have to contend with the Decatur business district or Clairemont Ave in the AM...I get on Coventry Rd, then E Clifton Rd, then Oxford Rd which puts me on N Decatur Rd in front of the gates of Emory...then I turn west on N Decatur.

If I had to pick, I would live either in the NW or SW quadrants - though it's not a huge deal from the east side either. The west side of City of Decatur would include Oakhurst, Westchester, the area around Nelson Ferry between Scott Blvd and East Ponce de Leon and the area known as Lenox Park (there are several Lenox Parks in ATL btw). The Decatur version of it includes Drexel, Melrose and Avery Roads. - Anything west of Clairemont/S. McDonough essentially.

Again - it's not a big deal though. If you find a home you love on the east side of Decatur you are only adding a few minutes to your commute.

Hi LovinDecatur-We're looking at a house on Drexel AV (among others!) - I think that would be NW. Thanks for your input- it's a big help!

Isn't it Lenox Place?

Charming neighborhood, and that is NW...check out Ryan Gainey's garden on Emerson St just off Drexel (you can't miss it, it's a very short street). It is one of the most beautiful gardens in Atlanta.
