This morning I got a ticket for an HOV lane violation. I car pool with my girlfriend every day and on this day she stayed home sick. Not thinking about me being the only person in the car this morning I took our regular route down the HOV exit ramp heading towards Lindbergh Station. There was a safety enforcement officer at the end and he pulled me over and gave me a ticket. Is there a way to get out of this or am I destined to pay the $75.00 dollar fine? Will they reduce the fine at all?

I don't know if you can fight it or get a reduction, but it sounds justified. Sorry. Maybe if you tell your story to the judge he'll have some sympathy.

When I was 18 I got a speeding ticket in Indiana (not much over the 55 limit). It was around midnight and I was hurrying home. When I went to court I took my mother with me and explained I was trying to beat my curfew. The judge dismissed the ticket. I was shocked. Probably deserved the stupid thing.

I agree with the above, if you show up for court, and bring your co-pilot with you to vouch for your story, you've got a chance of getting the fine dropped. You may have to pay court costs anyway, which are usually around $30-40, so I guess it really depends on whether the $35-45 savings is worth your time (and your co-pilot's time) to go and sit in court for 3-4 hours. If it was me, I'd just pay it and move on- I'm not about to waste that much time just to save a few $$$.

I thought that you get a warning for the first HOV lane violation?

Does it make economic sense in fighting a 75 dollar ticket. I received a ticket for lane violation for 100 bucks, I figured with parking, driving, time, and taking a PAID day off from work that I lost 4 times more money if I went to court.

Those were the days when the City was not a 140 million in the red.

I think if you bother to go to court and say to the judge, "I'm sorry, but I forgot I was alone in the car this morning"... well...

Gas $ to get to court.
Parking $ to part in courthouse parking.
Time involved.
Gas $ back home.
** You're probably talking about half the fine cost right there at least.

Pay the fine, and next time remember if you're alone or not. LOL

I agree...pay the fine and move on. At least it's not triple digits.

Thanks for all the responses you guys. It would seem taht the logic thing to do is to pay the fine and move on. Lesson learned and I WONT make this mistake again. Thanks every body.

eat it. Doesn't effect your D.L. points nor your insurance. Not worth the fight, especially since you 'ARE' guilty.
