I am convinced that the only way I am going to get at least a decent paying job is to take a job in Marietta. I would like to get a job that goes with my major, G.I.S. Does anyone know of anything in Marietta?

I'm confused why you think tha this is the case ? Almost every muncipality uses GIS for their utility system. I'd start with the Departments of Government Operations or Public Works...find out who runs the GIS departments and send your resume.

Also try engineering consulting companies...they do most of the GIS building with the municipalities using the final product.

My main concern is that I am still working on my degree and my current job is pitiful as far as the pay goes. $6.35/hr and my hours are being cut back. For this college student, that isn't enough.

So are you looking for GIS work or some other kind of work ? If you want to at least stay in your field you could always consider field tech work with engineering companies. We use field techs for pulling field samples etc. on environmental projects. You may also be able to get GIS work as a co-op...your school should be able to help you with that.

Ok well I'd expand your search past Marietta if you can. Is this going to be part time work for you ? And where are you going to school ?

I appreciate the help. What I am learning though is that I need a college degree for all of the jobs appearing and so far I am still in school.

First off...send a resume to this guy ^^

Second, look for internships/partime work/college research -- they pay minimum 10-14$ depending on what aspect of GIS. Finish that degree ASAP - I work in telecom, while we are not hiring now, our four thousand person outfit employs at least five or six fulltime GIS analysts...i.e. mapinfo gurus. They assist engineering, sales, marketing. Any place you can dream of that would think a thematic map identifying populations, groups, demographics, incomes would be valuable (This would be all outside sales and direct marketing targets), your services should be wanted. Good luck.
