From Savannah to Atlanta (Boston: affordable apartment, house, neighborhood)

Hello everyone, I've been thinking of moving to from Savannah to Atlanta after graduation. I'm a web designer and the job pool here in Savannah for related jobs is slim to none. I've been looking at the Atlanta area and I see some potential in my job field. I'm a single women so I'm not looking for a house just a apartment in a pretty decent neighborhood. My questions are:

Where would be a good place to find an affordable apartment in a Atlanta and surrounding areas?

I also don't own a car and want to know should I get one before relocating?

I've heard about Zipcar:Carsharing in the Atlanta area and I was thinking of looking into this. Does anyone have any experience with carsharing in Atlanta?

I hate to say it, but you're going to need a car. There are a few spots where you might scrape by without one, at least for a while, but they are going to be expensive.

IMHO, the need for a car precludes carsharing in Atlanta. It's great for places like Boston or New York, but here you need one to go shopping, go to the movies, run errands, etc.

You need to say more about yourself for an apartment recommendation, such as lifestyle preferences and price range.

Oh sorry about that. I'm a single female in my mid 20's and would like to find an apartment for about $500 - $700 a month if that is possible. I would like to be in range of some shopping centers, movie theaters, bars, gym etc. In general places where you can go during the weekend if you are bored. I'll be living alone so living in a decent neighborhood is important. I lived in Savannah for about 3 years now so I understand the measure you have to take to be safe. Just don't want to be afraid to walk out of my front door.

That's kinda like asking where you can find a UGA fan in Atlanta. The answer is anywhere.

Tough not to have a car. You would need to be convenient to MARTA to pull that off IMO. MARTA - Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority
