I've been there...you're right, it's a real gem of a bookstore. I loved Politics and Prose, too.

It's odd that a used bookstore would sell items specifically intended to discourage people from parting with their books.
Eagle's Eye isn't only a "Used" bookstore. They have some previously owned books and many new books, interesting pictures and more. It is really worth a browse on your way home to Tucker from perhaps the Sloppy Floyd Bldg--(not prying into your private life-but from what you have said in earlier posts--I gathered you must work somewhere down there.)

For a while I thought--'Perhaps a professor at GA State', but then you said something that made me think that wasn't what you did.

You are a well-educated individual--good taste to live in Tucker--LOL. I just like that little town--down to earth, open-minded people for the most part. Home to Idlewood Elementary and I did enjoy my years there--the Bakers, the Wilkinsons, the Carrs and so many more good families. Like Panama City, Tucker is a well-kept 'Secret'. Getting better every time I am over that way--more diverse--some interesting new restaurants and shops are appearing on Main Street. A creole restaurant really intrigues me.

For some good bookstores--pick one in the historic district of Savannah,GA. I can't remember the names but you will be browsing for 'a while' if you enter.

So much creativity there--writing, and all kinds of artistic pursuits. I think about moving back there again--but the little bugs--the "No SeeUms'--they feast upon me. I think some have migrated north--it is The Season for those bugs and I am under attack. SkinSoSoft--that is what repels them or if you live there for years maybe you develop an immunity?

I need to live near 'Water' of some kind.

Maybe DeKalb County will just scratch the plans for high density development and create some sort of a water garden for me. I would like waterfalls and a lagoon. Not too much to ask is it--after all the taxes I've paid?

I could take my books, with my name in them and read for hours.

Yeah, I know Eagle Eye. I've been in there. Browsed some '60s and '70s Sears catalogs at their sidewalk sale. Actaully, I was near there last night (had dinner at Mediterranean Grill across from Eagle Eye). I almost went to the bookstore, but I thought I was running late for a concert...as it turns out I was 90 minutes early, so I guess I should always make a point of going into a bookstore no matter what.

Yes, always go into a bookstore. LOL--I suspect you might really 'live in a bookstore' if the DW is a librarian. Good that you share a love of 'Reading'.

I am now going with Louisa May Alcott--'Good books, like good friends should be few and well chosen'--had too many books--got tired of boxing them up and taking them to the donation points. So now I have 'Enough' and the Library does a great job of keeping the books that I want to read --'If it aint' broke don't fix it'--a saying popular at Idlewood/Jack Lavender's philosophy--. Throughout the last decade I often said to myself and others--'The DeKalb Library is the last bastion of civilization.' They of course have, Magda, and others of that caliber and have managed to keep going with little funding and sometimes little more than sheer determination, that is my assumption.

Librarians, media specialist--very cool people. I wish I had pursued that career and could go to their conventions.

I go to Books and Writers in Compuserve/AOL--it is Free just sign up. Anyway--there are 'Real' authors there--talking about writing, publishing and all kinds of 'ideas'--well, you certainly must know many literary types---they think freely and believe me I enjoy that. One of my favorite authors is Diana Gabaldon, 'Outlander' series, she will answer any question about writing or her books. One of the nicest people on earth and what a mind---sharp as a rapier--the better to slice through the 'S' that is inherent to living in this mortal realm.

Go To Toco Hill and get takeout from Maldives--Teriyaki and more--new place near the Kroger--very tasty. There is a new bakery next door, the owner says he makes some low carb/sugar free breads and pastries, also a diabetic. Toco Hill is just fine the way it is--we don't need it to be an Atlantic Station--hope some compromise can be found.

'Less is More'---another saying popular among the Tuckerites of my acquaintance. Obviously some in Tucker know how to keep perspective when planning for the future. Hope they are willing to 'Share' the secrets with North Druid Hills/Briarcliff/Clairmont.

I would like to work in a bookstore--enjoyed Borders but want a different environment this time.

The internet, combined with corporate power, has killed the used book trade.

The best you can do is half.com or amazon. They are actually a pretty good deal as far as how much money you get, but it's a pain because you have to deal with the hassle of mailing, including a trip to the post office -- they stopped accepting books in stamped mailers from homes about six months ago.

Thanks.
I have been trying to locate this miniseries on either VHS or DVD for several years now. It is called Kennedys Of Massachusetts. Can anyone help?

Thank you for expanding my vocabulary - I had never heard "janky" before so I had to look it up.

I have about 20 VHS tapes. Where can I take them locally to sell them. I do not want the hassle of selling them myself.

That was a couple years ago, so maybe they've changed their policy again, but that policy TOTALLY sucked.

There's a store next to the Kinkos at N. Decatur and Clairmont called Eagle Eye Book Shop. I don't know if they buy/sell/trade, but it's worth a try. Also, there's a book exchange on N. Highland across the street from Manuel's Tavern.
Just an update on Book Nook here, since I don't think it ever was done completely...

There are still three locations of Book Nook...

1) The best choice and open quite late by modern standards 10:30pem every day, is the North Druid Hills location... almost always find something interesting there, not sure if they buy now, though...

2) The Marietta Book Nook, closes pretty early, like 7pm...

3) And the Lilburn Book Nook,I think on Lawrenceville Highway or close to it... a very good loaction but alas, it closes at 7pm on the dot!

Not far from Book Nook is the Half Price Books on North Decatir Road, and I think they buy media...

Wuxtry, also on ND Blvd... may still buy CDs?
