Hello -

My partner & I are considering the purchase of a home that is literally a stone's throw (~3-4 houses) down from the construction site of the new Oakhurst Fire Department. Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether this may be a deterrent to purchasing this home or will decrease any future sales of the home?

I've emailed the Decatur police dept & I got response that they average ~2700 calls per year and that ~80% of the fire & rescue responses will be from this new FD once it is up and running. We're a bit concerned about the amount of siren usage, etc.

Does anyone live near a FD and have an opinion? In particular does anyone live near a current Decaur city or Oakhurst FD and have any info about the frequency & times of sirens?

Thanks!!

GC

I've never heard anyone make serious complaint about it...Decaturites have kind of a 'village' mentality; they know that they don't live in a subdivision, and are often only a few steps from retail, commercial and other non-residential establishments. Some, I imagine, would likely be comforted by the proximity of a fire station.
IMO it wouldn't be much of a deterrent; Oakhurst is a big draw these days and IMO the positives far outweigh this potential negative.

Yes, I actually emailed the blogger over there to ask if he had any input when I found that resource. Figured I'd post here as well in case there is a different population of Decatur residents on this forum. Thanks!

I figured it was probably you, but posted it just in case.
