The Capitol Grille, or something like that?

That's it, Ray. Sad it closed. One of the prettiest restaurants in town.

I remember that place. Went to a fabulous reception there for this book. I met Coretta Scott King there; a truly beautiful woman, inside and out.

I bet we were there at the same time. I knew the author, Gary Pomerantz, for quite some time. He was with the AJC for about a decade (if I recall correctly), but he and his family moved to California about a dozen years ago. You should check out some of his other works. Good author, great guy. Everyone who has an interest in Atlanta should read the book you cite.

No degrees of separation! His In-Laws were neighbors of my cousin in Atherton.

Totally agree. No Atlanta bookshelf is complete without it!

I know I'm quoting a really old post but I just now saw it. I loved Big Movie Shocker, with Bestoink Dooley. I used to watch it after coming home from high school football games. The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, and my favorite -- The Creature From the Black Lagoon!

Bestoink Dooley and George Ellis - atlantalarry

I remember and loved the Film Forum, which was located at Ansley Mall. Ellis Jr. would come out before the picture and do a little commentary; often he would invite the audience to discuss the film afterwards. It was like the intros and commentary around the movies they show on TCM.

We've lost some great 'art house' theaters over the years: Film Forum, Garden Hills, the Ellis. Fortunately we still have a few around like the Tara to give independent films a home in Atlanta.
Speaking of local theaters, does anyone else remember the Gay Paree Cinema downtown? They featured gay porn; the ads in the paper were hysterical, with movie titles like "Marines, Let's Go!"and "Round-up Time at Rancho Hombre."
