That link to Ruby Red's band make me think of one of my favorite Far Side cartoons:

I'm thinking it was the late 90s, but that could be wrong.

I think you are close - mid to late 90s. My husband who grew up in Atlanta loved that place!

Back in the day: Peaches Records and Tapes location on Peachtree Blvd. Many happy hours spent browsing the vinyl racks in 1970's.

Back in the day: Alex Cooley's Electric Ballroom. Music venue with feeling of intimacy given small capacity of seats. Caught many well known acts for small admission fee.

Back in the day: When Buckhead felt user friendly, before concierge trash pickup add-on's and obscene HOA fees.

More recent past: Loved Harry's Market before it became Whole Foods Market.

These days: places like Avalon complex feel like cookie cutter corporate trap to me. They keep building this stuff, so obvious many like cookie cutter sameness.

Restaurant scene along Buford Highway so cool. Many foodies crave feeling of authenticity and ethnicity.

Thank goodness many of us worked to save Fox back in the day. Scary to ponder what may have arisen from site of a demolished Fox Theatre.

Underground Atlanta: Place to avoid in 70's. Dante memories? Dante's sucked. Seeing guys throwing-up on their bell bottom pants from too many Hurricane drinks was no highlight memory from the past. I vividly remember staring at J.B.Stoner decorated window display in closed shop in 70's Underground Atlanta. An ugly place with an even uglier reminder of racism and bigotry. Most shops were closing or closed. Underground Atlanta is one place from past that will be greatly improved even if it is a corporate cookie cutter contrived product.

That may be but I was there a couple of Saturdays ago and it was PACKED at 1 pm. Obviously it's working.

Are you comparing Antico Pizza and Rumi's Kitchen to Olive Garden? Weird.

Avalon's got a restaurant lineup that will hang with the best of them.
