Oh, but come on. Nothing is definite. Sounds like a tremendous plan, but there are so many "ifs" to this project. IF it gets financing. IF it is built to 40, 50, 60, or 70 stories. IF it is approved. IF the economy allows.

Terrible timing to propose a building such as this. I hope it gets built, but I wouldn't bet on it in today's climate--at least not yet.

1) It is a "proposed" project.

2) If it does happen, it will be "at least 40 and possibly up to 70 stories".

3) If approved, ground breaking would be at least 18 months from now. If you're in a peeing contest with other cities, chances are they've got projects in the works in the next 18 months, too.

4) A building is concrete, glass, and steel - nothing more. It houses offices space and possibly a hotel or condos. It does nothing to solve traffic problems, air quality, or crime. It's just a building. Funny comments about being "international" by the developers in that article - as though building this, people will suddenly see it and go, "Oh.. my gawd... Atlanta certainly is international now! lol

Well, yeah; a lot of that will depend on how firm a commitment they get out of ICG (their anchor tenant). Acc. to an amigo of mine that works there: since this is their hdqtrs, they want a big presence and so are taking this pretty seriously. They are, after all, the largest hotel group in the world; the best case scenario would be hotel + corporate hdqtr offices in this building/signage. I can see it flying in that case.

Gee I hadn't thought of that possibilty. Where did you hear that ICG might be the anchor tenant?

If that's happens then this tower has a high probability of getting built.

Right. I imagine Atlanta leaders of the past and present equate "international city" with how tall their skyscrapers are. Uh, I beg to differ...lol.
