I just moved here and I'm looking for places to hang out by myself. I haven't met many friends yet, but I like to explore and I'm not afraid to do things by myself. Are there places for a single girl to hang out and have a good time without looking like a loser with no friends? I'm not really into the club scene (27 years old), and I'm not looking to hook up with anyone. I just want a good time!

If you have a laptop computer, I would suggest you go to the Borders bookstore, on Ponce, and sit at a table in the coffee shop area. There's usually lots of interesting people there and it's really easy to start a conversation. If you don't have a laptop, just get a few magazines and books.

We're having great weather now so you could get a snack at the Whole Foods deli, which is right next door, and sit at an outside table. I've eaten there by myself a few times.

A pet store is down a few doors and it's fun to see the great mix of people and the occasional dog/dogs.

BTW, if you get a salad at the Whole Foods deli, do go lightly because the salad is weighed. One time I ended up paying $14.00 for my salad. It was a great salad, but is wasn't quite worth $14.00.

check out meetup.com - I know you said by yourself, but there are tons of groups for newbies to the area. I have met lifetime friends thru one of the groups.
