I have been praying for Obama's safety, because I am sure there are people out there that still are racist and have hate that we are going to be led by a black man. The color of skin is the only difference he was created just like everyone else. This is an amazing moment in history and I am really happy that he won.

GOD BLESS OBAMA AND HIS FAMILY AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

How many white people think you would have a chance at winning, and would they show up to vote? NO. This is why minorites including women and gays usually do not vote relatively speaking, because they don't believe it matters. Obama inspired people to vote, and not to fear.

To your second point, I agree. Unless Obama personally comes to Georgia to campaign Chambliss seat is safe, for now.
Well, if thats how people choose to vote, than shame on them. That's like saying, 'Why get an education'.

Actually, you are right. It's similar to saying, why get an education. Disenfrancising a society ill, more so than an individual problem. I honestly do not know if Barack will be a great president or an utter failure, time will tell. What I do know, is no longer in America any group of people, with maybe the exception of women, can say it use the word impossible. The changing of the central authority of America is changing, and this central authority is exclusively white men.

But who is really the Authority if there is one? the guy on the stage that will attract votes? or the guy behind him?
It is all psychological and visual, but I don't see anything better than what the Bush's programs offered and in his promesses, apart from one year of hope.

Well let's see. For starters I'm pretty sure Obama's not into torturing people.

just don't like nuclear myself or feeling that all the money in the usa will go abroad because he feels so generous, he can't have it both ways...question of opinion that's all...there was not any other candidates to vote for, that matched his strength. You have not enlighted me though...but that's ok, we will see.

I do agree with you [above] in some ways ... however I would think that we could have [next] a female President ... perhaps an Asian or Hispanic American leader? Obama opening doors?

In some ways (not sure how to phrase this) do you believe that many people of different races would think that the highest job in the USA is now available to everyone? (we'd like to believe, right?) I'm tired so I'm not thinking clearly? Just my thoughts.
No problem about the support...just spreading the good word/truth!

Referring to my post...I'm thinking about people who think by having Obama as prez, we can now just push racial problems/issues under the rug...as if they don't exist anymore. That it's over...like "We have a black president now...what else do y'all want? Get the chip off your shoulder...etc."

This is scary/worrisome since Obama as president is not going to change a d@mn thing for the typical minority. Obama could be used as a convenient token, while the keeping the real problem "in their place."

Moreover, I lived for several years in a Latin American country that is mistakenly called a "racial paradise" by those who are uninformed. This Latin American country effectively achieved white societal superiority and black/brown societal inferiority without de-jure segregation, etc. It's unfortunate considering the true racial state of the country. The black/brown people are "in (and know) their place."

The benefit of the U.S. having de jure segregation for so long after slavery (unlike this Latin American country) is that it was a catalyst (or wall) that galvanized the civil rights movement...overall, leading to a better American society and consciousness (and black consciousness).

There are a few benefits to this Latin American country's way...they "mixed" more. There was/is a lot of mixing in the U.S (see my other ancestry post), but not to the extent of this country. However, this Latin American country has effectively become a pigmentocracy...with the notion that it is better to try and "whiten the descendant line" and marry up (lighter partner). Therefore, unmixed minorities (Africans) are totally marginalized. (Note: the "whiten the line" phenomenon is not as bad as it once was, but it is still a major part of the national consciousness.)
