Smyrna new mixed-use development - South Cobb Drive + East-West/Cumberland intersection? (Austell: real estate, condos)

Has anyone seen the zoning variance signs for the new development going in at the corner of South Cobb Drive and the East-West Connector? I think I glanced as driving by that it was for "mixed-use". If so, that would be very very exciting since I live about 1/2 mile away. Has anyone seen what it says?

Hopefully it doesn't block out too much of the skyline.

I just saw the sign says "High density residential" on it. I hope it's mixed-use and has at least a few housing units. The Silver Comet Trail entrance has enough strip malls.

There were (before the bottom dropped out) at least 2-3 projects planned at one time, in and around that area that are the new mixed-use trendy shopping center things.

For instance, just up the road from where you're talking is this project that's been around a little while now...



Businesses are on the ground floors, with condos above. I know that at one point another project similar to this one was definitely planned for the E/W Connector and Austell Road area, as well as "other possible similar projects" in Cobb (of which what you're talking about could be one).

These "mini-Atlantic Station" concepts are popular and trendy, but I'm afraid they're going to be overdone and start popping up on every corner in the coming decade, in which case they will lose their trendiness and just become the next generation generic strip-malls. Anyway - most likely what's going in where you're talking is one of those proposed jobs similar to the pic above.

I found the plans. No residential. The location of Outlot 1 and retail A bothers me because it's too disconnected. Retail B and C I like (though it's disappointing there's no residential component). I hope Outlot 2 and 3 become mixed residential and not fast food joints.

Atlantic Station is just another version of a mixed used development. These types of developments have been around a while and most are not like Atlantic Station (which I think is kind of a mess of one).

Most are more like the one pictured which is down the street from the S Cobb/E W Connector location.

I hadn't read anything about residential for this location though.

What are the outlots? Space for big box stores? Is my commute about to suck?

By the way, a-greg, commercial real estate is going in the tank right along with residential. The threat of overdevelopment is history. Have a look at the stock charts for commercial reits like SPG and GGP . . .

I hope the outlots are used for something other than fast food, gas stations or things like that. We have enough in that area and I don't want any more tackiness around. I'd prefer they be things like drug stores, bookstores, etc.

two drug stores are less than a mile up the road and Borders is a few miles west and east of that intersection - while I would love a bookstore, I doubt it would happen - maybe in 1999, but not in 2009.

Also if want less tacky, let's hide some of the ugly vast parking lots.

Does anyone think that The State of Ga should put a traffic light in the publix shopping center near atlanta bread company and across from World Gym. My husband and son could of recently died in an terrible accident and I am really livid. Apparently their are at least 2 accidents their a month. I wonder how many people have to die in order for the state of Ga DOT to consider it.
