I am new to this site, but I chuckle at how often threads work their way away from the topic and wind up at race! Okay, I do not know areas in and around Atlanta, but there are plenty of low income areas with primarily black residents and high crime in New York State, along with plenty of low income areas with primarily white residents and high crime here as well. There! I think the bottom line is as brownhornet said; low income and frequent drugs areas have the greatest potential for burglaries . And I do realize that well-to-do areas will have break-ins as well.

We are not getting a dog because it requires too much maintenance that we are not able to attend.
Since I have been at home, there are some cars that 'monitor' the area, and people as well. I spotted people walking around at 130 to 2am for no reason.
Anyone has any experience and tips on how to proceed when a community is being targeted as such? Thank you for any words of wisdom...

Xanax.
After a few days if you still think you
need to take these precautions, move.

Easier said than done. If we move, they win. In any event eversince 2008 we had no additional brake ins. The neighbors banded together, the APD was present and some arrests were made. We had a vehicle brake in not long ago. The neighbor's vehicle was parked overnight on the driveway. The neighbor basically asked for it.

Parking in your own driveway overnight is asking to be robbed? Sounds like a great neighborhood.

I must agree with your sarcasm. In this neighborhood parking your vehicle in your driveway is asking to be robbed, yes. If it is not a gated community they will make their way in. This particular vehicle was in a cul de sac. 'Senior Members' call me a troll and an Atlanta basher but they are oblivious to the facts that I expose. Had I the finances to move out, I would.

Realizing that this post is two years old, let me still throw in this fact: I usually take (multiple) late night walks. I get bored and work nights. I have no interest in breaking and entering, or stealing somebody else's crap.

I don't think he was implying that he was worried about anything...it seems like he was responding to the comment regarding "people walking around for no reason at all hours" or something to that effect. You really don't know why people are walking around at any time of day or night, and you can't assume that they are up to no good. We don't live under curfews or in a police state so we have the freedom to walk around whenever we want.

Seeing this thread helps me understand your attitude toward Atlanta, although it is still hard to see why you characterize the entire city the way you do. You chose to live in an area with a reputation for higher crime, yet you're painting the whole of Atlanta that way. I feel for you after reading your original post in this thread and I'm glad you haven't had anymore break-ins, but you really need to think about some of the statements you're making in other threads about crime in Atlanta.

I guess if I had been a victim of crime I might feel differently, but I'm pretty sure I would still understand that it can happen anywhere at any time and is not only a "problem" in Atlanta.
