No, even though when I lived in Marietta, we were in the Sprayberry district. I am a graduate of the now defunct Hogansville High School, replaced by the newer Callaway High School when the Hogansville city schools merged with Troup County. My mother still lives there. A mother that used a switch on my little legs a time or two. An example of one of those violent parents I am sure.

What you describe sounds an awful lot like Vermont. Very liberal and in the middle of nowhere.

Here in Georgia, you may find some more liberal leaning folks in rural areas, but many rural southerners, including black southerners, tend to be religious and usually not as socially liberal. Of course those are just generalities.

Peachtree City, McDonough, Stockbridge (hudson bridge area), outskirts of Kennesaw might put you out far enough.

I would NOT consider any part of Cobb County as "rural". There are less dense and more ex-uburban areas in Acworth and Powder Springs, but I think calling any part of Kennesaw "rural" would be stretching things.

No, of course not!

It means you're a violent gay-bashing parent.

Hysterical.

Frankly, what the OP wants doesn't quite exist here. The best thing I can recommend is to be just on the outskirts of Alpharetta. You can still find some homes that are not in subdivisions and have 2-3 acres.

The most liberal areas here tend to be Sandy Springs, Atlanta itself, Vinings, Roswell, Decatur, and the towns in-between. Otherwise, you'll find that GA is a red state despite the vast concentration of minorities. You have many large corporations that have set up shop in Alpharetta bringing in some highly-paid white collar and blue collar work. There are many transplants and educated minds here - easily the closest thing you'll find to suit your interest.

I don't think I'd call Vinings and Roswell liberal

I completely agree that its not LA OR SF, but for Atlanta, you have to agree that its more liberal than the rest of the state. Maybe better said, there are more liberally-minded people in those areas than many others.

How about rural Douglas County? Didn't Obama win out there?
