Thanks for everyone's input. I love the area and although I was probably careless, the area in between Grant Park and Turner Field is far from a bad neighborhood these days. I feel no less safe there than in Snellville where I grew up. I'm a GSU student and absolutely love being a five minute bus ride away, and I even jog home sometimes (during the day).

Those dilapidated buildings that were posted earlier was where it happened. The only reason I was over there was because I had missed the bus and decided to walk up to Hank Aaron to catch another one rather than wait another half hour. I have also thought to myself the potential that little strip has if somebody would do something with it; it reminds me of EAV.

There are tons of beautiful houses and diverse people around; but a few very old section 8 apartments are still around and large groups of people congregate around them at night.

I own a gun, but I'm never going to use it on someone over a music player or a little cash. Things get hairy in court when you kill someone on the street, even if you are the victim. Now if someone ever kicked in my door, you best believe I'd defend myself with deadly force, and I believe Georgia law backs me up pretty solidly on that one.

Even in self defense, there are a lot of deep emotional issues that often accompany taking someone's life. I'm sure we would all (most of us) do it automatically if we were in danger, but I've read and heard that it can be hard to deal with afterwards.

Sorry for the unfortunate act MorelandWalker.
I'm not very certain of the law in Georgia but you cannot generally use deadly force to protect property... so if the guy took the mp3 player and ran away, you would not be allowed to take out your gun and shoot him... you can only use deadly force if your life is threatened... but I think this is a silly question... if he had a gun, more than likely the perp would have surprised him and it would have been of no use. Crime sucks.

I kinda figured you were somewhere down near Hank Aaron BLVD.Thats where you have the more older sections of houses and there are the projects nearby.Your'e right about summerhil though. Its not that bad at all,but like any where ,even Buckhead anyone can become a victim if the criminal is brazen enough.Anyway stay safe, and aware.

Hey, That's bull! If the robber is caught, and the chances are slim, then he will do hard time in prison for armed robbery. Armed robbery is considered a violent crime, and the sentences are stiff.

I'm pretty adventurous, but I wouldn't walk in that neighborhood after dark without a glock in my pocket.

Sucks to get robbed. Happened to me 27 years ago in Orlando.

Yeah...damn my occasional desire to get a little exercise in my neighborhood without needing a gun

If the perp pulls a gun on you I'd think that means he threatening your life. Who wants to call a bluff if they had a gun on them being robbed. Imagine this guy goes and hold up an undercover cop. I think the cop would shoot his a**
