Do the schools get a few breaks of 3 weeks or so or a full summer off?

Alpharetta which is in Fulton county has a regular summer break. I am not sure about Suwanee/Gwinett County schools.

It can vary from school to school within a particular school system...but the trend is back toward the summer break school year. I know several schools in Fulton and other systems that were year-round schools have switched back.

Because the "many break" model generally offered some kind of remediation for those students who were behind, most systems that had a few schools doing it have reverted (or will revert) to traditional schedules by the 2009-2010 school year.

I don't believe there were any Fulton or Gwinnett schools doing it anyway.

I'm sorry, you're wrong.

There were 4 schools that I know of on the year round schedule in Fulton County. It wasn't to offer remediation for students who were behind, but at one time it was considered a possible better schedule for all students. There was so much review necessary at the beginning of each school year because of the long summer break, so the theory was that smaller breaks would equal students retaining more knowledge and less time spent on review.

Were they in S. Fulton?

Not in the Alpharetta area, right? Fulton is so spread out geographically it is hard to keep up with it all...

Thanks for clarifying this.

Doesn't matter though -- with the education cuts, most of these models are going away. (it will be interesting to see if CoA schools keep theirs).

I just hope there is enough money to still have 180 days of school next year.

I am worried, very worried about the changes that are coming and how many years they may last.

The year round schools have all converted back to traditional schedules already...they had the same 180 days as all other schools, just spread out over the full year - 9 weeks on, 3 weeks off.

Changes to what? Education? It's a necessary service...and an important one. There won't be any changes that will hurt or diminish education because of budget constraints. The money will always be found to pay for education.
