My sister is visitng from out of town, and I would love to take her and the kids to Olympic park at night...is it safe? We will be a couple of ladies with small kids, so I want to make sure.

Thanks

8PM or 3 in the morning? :-)

I'm guessing more like 8PM. Bad things can happen any time of day, though the later it gets, the more your risks are from drunk people, the occasional mugging, etc. Around 8 or 9 will probably be ok, though I'd probably try to get out of there before the place empties out of daytime people and bars start letting out. Most likely you will be fine, but you will probably feel uncomfortable since it looks a little scary and there will probably be homeless people coming up to you asking for money.

The park is not too far from five points, so you know how it is... Scarier looking than it is for real, though things do happen.

Just bring your gun and you'll be fine. I take mine and I feel alot better/safer when I do. I work 3 blocks away, I'd say out of there by 11 or 11:30 and you're good.

So as to not duplicate everything, here was a previous thread on the topic. But the short answer is yes as there should be lots of folks doing the same thing as you. Enjoy!

The park closes at 11 PM and does not open until 0700. Nobody is allowed there after 11PM.

The park is safe night and day. It is well patrolled by the police and it generally free of bums and criminals.

That's good. I actually work about 4 blocks from there at the Peachtree Center, and I can say that from times I have worked past midnight, I really could see how people could feel very uncomfortable there at late night, especially as you get closer to 5-points. I am not really uncomfortable. I've learned to B-line to my car and say have a good day as I walk by all the people asking for money. It has gotten a little more crowded at night around where I work because of the karaoke bar on Andrew Young International. It seems less desolate now.

At 8PM, there are plenty of CNN people, etc, all over the place. As you get closer to midnight, aside from the few overnight workers, the element anywhere around 5-points starts to get more shady.
