I am considering a move to Atlanta for a job at Georgia Tech. I will be visiting Atlanta in a few weeks and would like some pointers on which neighborhoods to look into for housing.

I am a single female, and safety is a top priority along with easy access to nightlife, cafes, bookstores, etc. I am looking for apartment/condo for rent in the $1000-1500 range. Also, would like to have commute to Ga Tech of 30 min. or less (I do have a car). I've had some recommendations to check out Buckhead area, but would appreciate the good advice from this forum.

Thanks very much!

I would check out areas such as Virginia Highland :: Atlanta, Georgia, MidtownAtlanta.org - News and Events and www.inmanpark.org

All are very close to GA. Tech and you could even take the subway to work www.itsmarta.com

Default rent on Peachtree!

I suggest Bennington Towers in Buckhead

24 hr concierge

Close to all the major interstates

Best school systems

More secure area- mostly residential area

Close to shopping center

I go to Tech and live in Berkley Park. I've heard of a few house break-ins, but only when doors were left unlocked. My car has also been broken into once (in 2 years) while parked on the street.

As mentioned above, Virginia Highlands is a pretty good neighborhood. Young, close to Piedmont Park, restaurants, night life. Not sure of pricing there.

You could also look for a condo in Midtown and possibly walk to work (depending on if you'll be on East campus - Management building - or West campus - Engineering). Then you would be on Peachtree with plenty of restaurants and bars. Again, not sure on pricing but I'm sure it's on the higher end.

Post Biltmore is right on the edge of campus and pretty nice/safe feeling. There are tons of condos for rent too within walking distance to GT.

I'll add the Vinings/Smyrna area. Great location and nice quiet area with lots of shopping nearby.

By the way, if you want to save some money and settle for less crowded environment, check out Howell Mill area. Apartments are cheap and you can avoid highways by taking back roads. Lots of GA Tech Students and Employees live in that area. Commute will be 15 min top. There is a new Walmart/Kroger etc right off the Howell mill exit. Good luck
