Glenn Burns said tonight we could be in store for a major snowstorm next week, similar to the blizzard of 93. Do you guys believe him ?

No, I don't. It'd be nice and fun but I don't think so.

You never know. We actually ARE a few years overdue for a storm. We used to get hit by them almost like clockwork every ten years. With climate change, we are now well past that ten year mark since the last one.

It's hard to know. They've got so crappy at predicting stuff like this they're afraid to even guess at more than 48 hours ahead of where we are anymore (and still wrong with those it seems). The more they rely on "computer models" the more they seem to get stuff wrong.

By Sunday though, the major grocery chains will probably be sneaking in some calls to the weather folks saying, "Hey, we need to get the milk off the shelves... say it's gonna snow!!!".... everyone will panic, schools will close, and then we'll see snowflakes for about an hour (if that) and it'll be over.

LOL, you are so right. I think the grocery stores and the news stations have some kind of partnership.

According to USA Today.com (weather section) we "should" have few snow showers/wind on Feb 3rd (TUE) and the temps are 36H/22L (high/low for those who don't know). Like our VERY busy Mod said "It's hard to know", it could end up being 60 and sunny/breezy with a light mist (we're certain to have that blizzard now).

If we DID get a major snow/ice storm, it would freak folks out. So many new people have moved to the metro area since the last storms. Many from areas that don't have them. Oooooooooo the next time WILL be interesting to be sure.

A few "tips" for newbies to the area:

1) Snow/Ice storms here (even the "bad" ones) RARELY last more than a couple of days where you can't leave the house. You will not starve to death inside your home. There is no need to buy 8 gallons of milk and 12 loafs of bread at the store the day before. Really - there isn't. If you literally have NO food in your house, well DUH on you! Stay stocked up, homer!

2) During those couple of days, don't get on the roads unless you absolutely HAVE to (as in a true emergency - and no, running out of diapers is not an emergency - use napkins). People here come from all over the world, and bring those driving habits with them - you actually will see people on black-ice covered roads try to drive 75mph, 6 feet behind the cars in front of them. Even if you come from a very snowy/icy region of the country and know how to navigate this stuff on your own, your safety is at risk being on local roads surrounded by tons of people who DON'T know how to handle it, until those roads are absolutely clear, so, just stay home and watch porn... er... Netflix movies.

3) Have batteries and battery-powered lights/lamps ready (at all times, not RIGHT BEFORE IT SNOWS), and a battery powered radio. Charge up your laptops, portable music/DVD players and all your "goodies" long before the storms, so you'll have stuff to play with if the power goes out.

4) If your power does goes out and you use a fireplace, kerosene heater, or other type of "fire" heaters, make sure you follow their safety instructions to the letter, and do not place those heaters anywhere near drapes, cloth, flammable objects, etc., and watch them (and kids and pets around them) while in use. Have wood/fuel for them stored safely in prep before these storms get close - once they confirm they're on the way, the stores will run out of this stuff and it'll be too late.

5) If you use a backup generator, put it OUTSIDE and run an outdoor-rated power cord into your house. Keep the generator at least a few feet from any doors or windows and NOT in your garage while it's running. Carbon Monoxide poisoning due to improper/unsafe generator use is actually a common thing when storms hit this area - make sure you know how to safely run these things to avoid it - it can kill.

Last, don't forget your pets - don't leave them outside during stuff like this or even in freezing temp times of year. Check on elderly neighbors who may need assistance. Don't park your cars under tree limbs as ice brings TONS of them down when storms hit. yadda yadda.. you get the idea by now. Be prepared, use common sense, but don't panic.

The good thing about snow in the south is that most people don't have to drive on it, since work and schools usually close, and it melts in a day or two at most.

This is kinda funny to me because as ex-Floridian who has dealt with Forecasters, Hurricane scares and actual Hurricanes, the same kind of behavior occured. People freaking out, buying mass amounts of bread and water right before the storm.

I embrace a snow storm, because althought there might be no power, at least I will have gas to cook, gas to warm up. In Florida if there was no power there was nothing but heat, humidity and lots of frazzled people.

Ok, somebody needs to educate me as I lived in NJ during the snows of 93.

Atlanta and Blizzard
Now, was this a real blizzard or the standard 20 minute snowman fart that melts in 20 minutes, yet all the mik and bread is missing from the stores.

I still remember moving down here from Chicago and staying at a hotel in January. I left Chicago at -15 and snow, arrived in Atlanta it was 47 degrees. Went to Publix in my shorts and folks were wearing down jackets and heavy coats. It was raining, and the stores were out of milk and bread Schools were closed too

Ok, I admit that 5 years down the road I too have became a little tender when it comes to cool weather But Blizzard? In Atlanta?

As far as I'm concerned he's an A-Hole! One of the worst local on-air personalities when he's off the air.
Believe what you want- but I'll wait until Sunday/ Monday for a forecast.
