Marietta Daily Journal - Ga. lawmakers want 'pole tax'

Now I'm NOT a big visitor to strip clubs. Been into a few here and there over the years, but I don't frequent them. Having said that, give me a break on a proposal to tax patrons.

I have a better idea that will net the state a TON more money....let's tax church goers. How about a $3 - $5 tax on every person who enters a church? Then we can fund all the programs we want/need and have tons of money for new things.

I honestly like your idea. The state would be rich. I wonder what the churchgoers would say about that. $3-$5 to go to church is not that bad. I'd be at the door collecting it all .

My take on it:

I don't see a problem with raising the age where you can become a stripper from 18 to 21 as the article said. That part, ok.

They said strip clubs are linked to child prostitution and trafficking? I don't see that. Trafficking of foreign women who might be forced to work in some of the seedier out of the way clubs? Maybe. Drugs in the seedy places? Yeah. But child traffickers use cars and vans to do their work - do we ban those or tax van owners more? Now that accusation is one of the things they use when they just don't approve of something personally, but want public support to "slap it" (no pun) with a tax or fine.

I support a $3-$5 tax on strip club patrons if that money is divided between various human service resource issues, and the money is accounted for. Child welfare issues, abused women resources, as well as a small amount of it going toward infrastructure and other public service projects just like any "sin tax" goes towards.

And yes, I think churches should pay taxes. They collect money. Funny too, how whenever there's a major religious convention in town, all the strip club parking lots are filled to capacity.

The other thing which makes it an exercise in futility is that there is already judicial precedent striking down similar taxes in other states as violations of the 1st amendment and on other grounds.

As for raising the age, my long held opinion on that one is that there should be one age at which you're an adult, be that 18, 21, or 53. What I oppose is this hodgepodge set of age laws for drinking, driving, voting, and now being a stripper. You're either an adult who will be held to the consequences of your actions or you're not, so let's figure out what age that is and stick to it.

I agree. I think it should be 20 to average it out. At 20, you officially have left your teens, and therefore should receive your badge of adulthood where you can buy alcohol, go to a strip club (and be taxed for it apparently. LOL), be drafted or enlist in the armed services, and have "unrestricted" driving license privileges. Under the age of 20 should not be allowed to enlist (too mentally young to handle it), should not be allowed to drink, and, should have restrictions on how late they can drive and with how many other underage people in the cars, etc (with job exceptions).

Better idea, why don't they just tax the fake cults that are all over the place like corporations as we all know that is what they are. There seem to be so many of them around, mostly all somehow connected by relationship to the TBN group. TBN - Trinity Broadcasting Network
Now that is one scary group, so much plastic surgery
Just think how rich the government would be, heck it would probably be enough money to payoff the stimulus debt

Wow! you have my mind going with numbers with this idea. How much money.
Who do we have?
We have the fake preacher who beat his wife outside the hotel bringing down millions a year tax free.
This clown now under investigation for milking his followers to fund his gay meetings behind his wifes back.
The Rick Warren clones with all the fake churches.
Poll tax, heck no tax at all if they burn these frauds.

I don't mess with God or Jesus, scared of the afterlife, when at the Pearly Gates trying to explain how I con'd millions out of poor folks in their name

I think it's complete BS. Tax, Tax, Tax.... it's crazy. Politicians justify taxing crap to support some other crap and it drives me crazy. They're manipulating the fact that the 'strip' club business isn't popular so they can justify their reasoning. The business is already taxed, why tax the customer?!?!?

Lets tax bar patrons, $3-$5 so that money can go to AA programs.
Lets tax drug store patrons so that money can go to Drug-Rehab programs.
Lets tax grocery store patrons so that money can go to Feed the Homeless.

Anyone see the taxes Bloomberg and NY are proposing, 'Ipod' tax?

Bloomberg is the mayor of NYC, not the governor of NY. The proposed taxes on downloaded material and such was from Albany.

And, I don't know, if I go to the store and buy a CD single I get taxed. Why would it be so far fetched to say buying a CD single from the computer would get a tax too?
