I want to see some more non-traditional Atlantan types enter the race. It's definitely time for the Maynard/Young/Franklin machine to retire, so unfortunately I won't be rooting for Kasim Reed, since he has ties to that machine thru Franklin.

are suggesting that COA get rid of cronyism??...the next thing you might say is that the airport needs to stop being a dumping ground of handouts for family members, donors, and incompetents looking for a free ride in the way of contracts....say it ain't so....

Doesn't the new president face the same?!? In that case, we need to elect a non-experienced, Black politician. Oh wait, we've already done that, someone call Bill Richards, we haven't had a Mexican yet. Maybe he can lead Atlanta's 'Change' once he gets out of prison.

The bad thing about it Snake is the entire roster running is part of the machine. Even Norwood, who seems to want things that is all good for Atlanta was the manager of Queen Shirley's campaigns, thus is she true to her word or more of John McCain type of candidate?
You are correct it is time for major change in Atlanta, but does it stand a chance? In 10 years as much of Norwoods surveys ask in regard to time, Atlanta will either be a Jewel with a downtown like Chicago or NY or another Detriot, broke, dangerous, and dismal.
Let's keep our fingers crossed and pray hard.

I like the year 2000 John McCain when he was willing to tell the extremists of both parties to take a hike. After that election though I felt that McCain lost a whole lot of that "Maverick" soul when he threw his lot in with the hyper-partisans. Wasn't cool that he used an a--hole like Tucker Eskew for his 2008 campaign.

I hope that Atlanta will not come to that point. I've heard too many horrible things about the way Detroit's government is conducted now, you'd think that it was some 3rd world country.

I'm hoping that a civic-minded business leader will step out of the shadows and once again lead Atlanta out of the darkness, sort of like how Henry Grady did it for Atlanta after the Civil War. That's my dream anyways...
