The shift is a structural move and will not bring any jobs to Atlanta.

The move transfers – on paper only – 11,000 jobs from the company’s former Consumer and Industrial division to GE Energy, spokeswoman Kim Freeman told the AJC.

Atlanta’s sweets attract San Francisco’s ANTs

A San Francisco-based software company could relocate its headquarters to Atlanta, lured by the region’s lower costs, a globally connected airport and deep talent pool.

ANTs Software Inc. (OTC BB: ANTS) could add up to 300 local jobs over the next few years, CEO Joseph Kozak said. The company helps Global 2000 companies, such as Wyndham Hotels and Resorts LLC, consolidate servers and databases, lowering annual IT costs by up to 50 percent.

Fort McPherson’s biotech makeover moves forward

A proposed 170-acre research park, expected to be the engine of a redeveloped Fort McPherson, could generate up to 7,000 jobs and lure Big Pharma to southwest Atlanta.
The research park is part of an ambitious mixed-used makeover of the more than century-old army base that could generate up to 15,000 jobs. Next month, the McPherson Implementing Local Redevelopment Authority will accept proposals to help “fine tune” its plan to revitalize the 488-acre base, scheduled to close next year. The authority is expected to negotiate the transfer terms of the Army-controlled land by this fall

Suniva expands production; adds 50 jobs

Suniva Inc. will expand its Norcross solar cell plant this year — boosting production capacity by 75 percent and its workforce by nearly 40 percent.

The Georgia Tech-spinoff claims to have a lower-cost way to make solar cells. Suniva, which has snagged nearly $1 billion in orders from Indian and European solar module makers, developed technology to make solar cells that can transform more of the sun’s energy into the juice that powers today’s plugged-in world.

Solar module maker plans Georgia plant

A Silicon Valley-based company that makes low-cost, high-efficiency solar modules is planning a manufacturing plant in metro Atlanta that could employ up to 1,000.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based MiaSolé will initially employ about 250 at the Griffin, Ga., plant, a source familiar with the deal said. The roughly 500,000-square-foot plant could be one of the largest solar factories in the United States, an industry analyst noted.
