clayton has to get rid of a lot of teachers. (i cant remember the number) but first yr teachers, etc did not have their contracts renewed.

i teach in gwinnett and have a hiring freeze. we have to get all of the displaced teachers into positions before one is hired from elsewhere (UNLESS you are in a critical area and even for that...there will be many trying to get a handful of positions).

i am wishing you the BEST!

Well apparently, Gwinnett is either hiring prospects to keep in their back pocket for next school year or human resources has a different agenda than the district...the job fair, even in this economic growth period, is still going on for next week (February 28, 2009).

with gwinnett, you NEVER know what is going on behind closed doors. i really dont know what they are looking for because we have so many displaced teachers. the only thing i can see is the need for the critical area teachers in middle/high schools.

we have over 1300 in my elementary school and several grade levels is losing a teacher including mine.

Yeah, we have about 600 kids in my school and each grade level is going to lose a teacher as well...they will probably be surplused to one of three elementary schools next year, and here's the kicker...one will be in Roswell, one will be in Alpharetta, and one will be in Fairburn. So you will have some teachers living in South Fulton that may be commuting to North Fulton everyday.

S.A.P. you know that is something that really concerns me about surplused teachers...having little to no choice as to where they are shipped off to. i moved from stn mtn to lawrenceville last august. i went from driving 50 miles a day to 4 . i couldnt IMAGINE what it would feel like to go BACK to driving every to some school on the other side of the county.

it is a sad situation and im quietly waiting to see how things pan out in our county. i wish everyone the best!

Yes, it is indeed a sad situation. Maybe it will work out for the best though and hopefully those teachers will not have to do that horrific commute.

Things may be more clear next month or May. As of now, the situation still stands where most counties are on a hiring freeze (except Gwinnett). Just keep going to the various websites and applying, something may come up.

Henry County had a job fair scheduled for this Saturday, but, it has been canceled.
