Ummm.... I'm going to have to say no. I disagree, but who am I to judge. Atlanta has a very high homeless rate. I'm sure if you are asking them, it's a totally different story. There have also been a lot of businesses leaving the city in recent years. Which means less jobs. I personally don't find it an unhappy place, and most people I know either really love or at least like living in Atlanta. But, I'm sure they aren't just making it up. Their research is based on something substantial, and I'm guessing it's apparent that there are a lot more places where there are a lot more happy people...

Winter is far from depressing in Atlanta compared to most cities I've been to or lived in (Just my opinion). I thought we fared well, some cities that are considered great cities were very high on the list.

I agree, especially after my frequent conversations this winter with my cousin in Minneapolis. She is about to go out of her mind.
BTW, Portland, OR was ranked #1 on said list, which IMO severely diminishes its' credibility.

I don't know of any businesses that have left Atlanta...but there are A LOT of companies that have moved operations or headquarters to Atlanta over the past few years. I'm sure there are some that moved to other cities, but I can't think of any. I assume the reference wasn't regarding buyouts or consolidations...

Overall I would say that Atlanta seems like a happy city. There's always something fun to do somewhere in the city, and people are generally friendly and helpful.

I always wonder how the data is collected and compiled. I've participated in a few marketing studies myself and I am skeptical about this method of obtaining opinions.

I also wonder about the wording of the questions/statements and the multiple choice answers--assuming wildly that was part of data collecting process.

How large was the test group?

I know that I would definitely be 'More Unhappy' in any city that had winter temps below freezing for over 6 months and had an arctic wind chill factor. I have heard that the wind in Chicago is particularly biting coming off the Great Lakes. I know I would hate owning, wearing and storing huge coats and parkas and all snow related gear.

Everyone talks about companies moving to Atlanta, to me, the quality of life here is poor. Maybe companies are moving here to save money, you can work people here and pay them low wages, forced them to work ot without paying them a dime, this is a non union state so you have no barginning power.

I am not sure how accurate businessweek is but crime for Atlanta was a 2?
It is all a matter of opinion I suppose
