I've heard that Atlanta is creating thousands of jobs everyday, but also that of late those jobs have been minimum wage jobs at Home Depot and best buy. I was wondering how easy is it to get a professional job in any field in the Atlanta metro? Can you walk into town and get a job, or does it depend on what field you are in like here in Cleveland?

I suppose it depends on what you do. The tech industry has rebounded nicely here. I do web design/production, recently posted my resume on Monster, and literally had to fight off the recruiters. My husband's been trying to hire a solid, experienced Perl programmer for months and can't seem to find a qualified person (meaning someone whose resume isn't chock full of grammatical and spelling errors, and/or who can speak enough english to communicate with the team...really basic stuff!) --- there are just too many other jobs out there.

A well-spoken, motivated individual should have no trouble finding work in town right now. Service industry is always hiring around here. Heck, my friend is a head waiter at a nice restaurant in town and makes six figures! Better than I'm doing...

Still, it is best to get a job before coming here. Several posters mentioned previously that they or their friends have difficult to get a job in Atlanta. It is best to be cautious. Also, Keep in mind, Atlanta has multiple job centers (downtown, midtown, alpharatta, norcross, Marietta, Dunwoody). Just in case you do decide to relocate without a job, I would recommend apartments in Dunwoody since you have access to MARTA train and Dunwoody is centrally located to all job areas.

Agreed. It seems to be a mantra on this forum..."Find your job first, THEN find housing close by".... Truer words were never spoken.
