Everybody loves to complain about Atlanta's lack of iconic structures and identifying architecture, yet when the city has a chance to create something iconic, the same people complain about spending money to build it.

I think it's just a matter of people who love to complain...about anything.

I'd go for either design 4 or 5. Quite an expensive project, if you ask me. Certainly in these tough times. Wouldn't it be cheaper and smarter if they restored some old delapidated building instead? (Just a thought)

There should be plenty of empty buildings in Metro Atlanta in need of love and repair. I think it's a good thing for a CCHR, but it would be smarter to restore something else, and take it from there. I think we waste too much money in this country if you ask me. Am I the only one who thinks this way?

Also a good point Deacon. I never looked at it that way. I voted for 4 though.

Yeah, a lot of people are still talking about what a waste of an opportunity the 17th Street bridge was. That had some major landmark potential and all we got was the banana.

I'd love to see Atlanta catch up to other cities in the area of modern, public architecture. This HOK project is going to be really cool.

Why do you say that?

Perfectly stated.

After taking another look at #4 it actually looks pretty nice. I think the Civil & Human Rights Museum will do just fine for multiple reasons.

(1) Enough people care about Civil & Human rights to visit.
(2) Great field trip for Metro Atlanta students.
(3) Could easily be bundled with tickets for the Aquarium and World of Coke.
(4) Like any museum would have temporary exhibits and lectures to attract repeat visitors.

There is so much the average person doesn't know about Civil & Human rights (me included). For example, did you know The Beatles' song "Blackbird" is about the American Civil Rights movement? Crazy, I know... I've been listening to that song my whole life and just found that out. Anyway, I'm certain this will be the hottest ticket in the South East for at least the first month, and once again Atlanta will be in the national spotlight (similar to the Georgia Aquarium hooplah).

Viva La Atlanta!

They won't be able to sustain themselves. Coke had to give them the damn land. I figure Coke thinks they'll get a free building out of it, that's why they donated the land.
