tandons--both schools are excellent+great.

Both schools will prepare you child well for college--you are lucky to have a choice between these two schools!

I recommend choosing a house/neighborhood in either district based on other factors:
-Commute to Work
-Likeability of House
-Likeability of Neighborhood

You can't go wrong with either choice.

Some magnets could give a child some advantage in admissions--(unique courses, higher-level courses, etc.), but I wouldn't necessarily disregard another good school just because it was not a magnet.

Amazing at what age kids know what they want to do. I'm 35 and still don't know what I'll be doing 5 yrs from now.

Also interesting that a thread is bumped when the OP is probably entering their Freshman year of college this August. Wonder how magnet turned out for them.

If you get into the magnet program at any school, your child will have a big advantage...not only for college admissions. Students in these programs are typically higher achievers and there are no students that may hold up the learning process of the class like in 'general population'. This was the case at my school (Riverwood). May be different elsewhere.
