Here are the typical suburbanites looking to move into the city of ATL. The affordable area we are considering is Reynoldstown, but the crime statistics have us a little nervous. Whats the general opinion about Reynoldstown from this crowd? Any good or bad experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

How proficient are you in the use of firearms?

Reynoldstown, while still a little rough around the edges compared to its' neighbors Inman Park, Candler Park and Kirkwood, is quietly attracting 'urban pioneers'. IMO it is a good investment for the following reasons:
- great location
- right on the MARTA line
- amenities close at hand...walking distance to Edgewood Town Center and Little Five Points.
- seclusion; no thoroughfares cutting through the neighborhood, so it's relatively quiet.

And its little commericial area in the center is very quaint and cute.

I have several friends who have bought there and they haven't had any problems. Why don't you go to one of the neighborhood meetings? I know there's a very active neighborhood group that is addressing crime in the area.

Smile Reynoldstown is a GREAT investment

I've lived in Reynoldstown for a year this week and LOVE it!

A very tight-knit community. Very progressive and hip. Sure, there's the typical crime that you'll find EVERYWHERE around ATL.

If you use common sense, (don't leave your laptop in your unlocked car) and stay connected with your neighbors and neighborhood group, you'd be fine.

It's a gentrifying hood that has been coming up- proving to be a positive experience and sound investment even with the economy.

I dunno.... come on folks, they are suburbanites moving into the City. While well-oiled intown residents might not see Reynoldstown as "that bad", someone from some of the suburban areas might think it's a scene from Thunderdome. Don't describe it from your experienced at living intown perspective.... try to see it from THEIRS as they will see it, coming into the City from the Suburbs.

Ok, I don't live in Reynoldstown. We've done some work down there where I work, and I know it's improved a bit from years ago when I did live intown and it was avoided like the plague. Still, as someone who at least tries to see things from varied angles, I'd still describe the area as "Gritty with hope on the horizon". Brave intowners and hipsters will have enough mountain oysters to handle it - suburbanites making their first move into the City - I'm not so sure.

If I were to move back intown, I would live in Brookhaven (not really INtown, but close), Virginia Highland, or Inman Park. Brookhaven from the sheer convenience of the location and low crime rate. VaHi or Inman due to their character and walkable amenities and "relative" low crime for inner town neighborhoods. If I couldn't afford to get a place in those areas, I wouldn't make the move. That's just me and my opinion.
