I'm really frustrated by the state of Atlanta FM radio stations. I like 80s/90s pop music/soft rock/top 40. There really is only 1 station in Atlanta that falls into that category and that's B98.5. They really stick to a set playlist of songs they play over and over again and they play way too much Kelly Clarkson. I'm not into country music or hip hop/rap/R&B at all and I feel like Atlanta has way too many of those types of stations. I don't know why there are 2 top 40 stations (Star 94 and Q100) that play the exact same music. Even smaller cities like Macon and Chattanooga and Greenville SC have 2 or 3 stations that play 80s and 90s music or soft rock. Many cities have a JACK FM format but Atlanta doesn't have that either. Is there a reason for this or does local radio feel like there's no radio audience out there for 80s and 90s music/pop? I guess I'll stick to my MP3 and old cassette tapes because I've never seen such a bad market for the music I like. Most cities in the country have at least 2 or stations that will play 80s/90s/soft/pop/top40.
Have you tried 92.9 DaveFM at all? I find it a pretty damn good mix of 80s/90s/modern music. Rarely do I hear teenie-bopper type stuff, and the rotation doesn't overplay much at all (except when that damn "Strange Overtones" song was hot). They mix everything from Stevie Wonder to Bob Marley to Sublime to Pearl Jam to B-52s. Always keeps it interesting.

You can thank good ol' fashion American Corporatism for that. Whether it be CBS, RadioOne, Cumulus, or Clear Channel, it's all the same. It's like inbreeding with these media companies. I can hear one song off of one station and hear the same song on another station 2 minutes later...in some cases even at THE SAME TIME!!!
These days I listen to online radio for new and diverse music, even for the classics, 'cuz Lord knows it'll be forever and a day before I see new material on Corporate radio.
star 94 is the best mix and your only choice pretty much unless you are into country (ngc is for that) or hipppyhoppy rappy poppy or some remix of these (the beat, hot 107). frankly 107 is better since the beat reruns the same stuff 1000 times.
I never listen to FM music anymore. Too few decent stations here in Atlanta (compared to other cities) and too many commercials. I have XM/Sirius and would never go back to listening to over the air FM radio. With satellite, you get everything you could ever want, in every known genre and format, and in digital quality.
I have tried Dave FM and it's certainly an eclectic playlist and they do play some good stuff from the 80's and 90's but quite often they veer into territory of music that's really 'out there' that I've never heard before. It's fine to have some of that but they dig down really deep into their archives for a good deal of their music.

Seriously? You think the stuff on Dave is really out there?
