Hello!

My husband and I are relocating to Atlanta in the very near future to be closer to family while we start our own family. We are searching for jobs but we keep coming up with one problem...it seems like employers really don't want to consider you if you live out of state...they would rather have a local candidate. I guess I can understand that...less of a risk.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on how we can go about getting our "foot in the door" somewhere in the central or north Georgia area? We would like to secure a position with a company before moving. We are currently renting so the move can happen quickly.

Any advice would be most appreciated!

You've got it made with family in the area! Before you apply for jobs in Atlanta again, get permission to use a relative's street address as your mailing address. Ask them to accept mail on your behalf and then overnight it to you (send them a large, prepaid, self-addressed FedEx or UPS envelope to minimize the inconvenience for them).

Reassure skittish potential employers that upon accepting a firm job offer, you will fly here to start when they need you and will probably stay with this supportive family member until more permanent living arrangements are made.
