Well for one blue chip athletes aren't gonna go play at non BCS football schools anyway. Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina, and now with Paul Johnson at GT all recruit heavy here. Another issue is will GSU be able to maintain the necessary attendance to become Division 1A? I think its a pretty well known fact that sports teams here from college to pro have trouble with support.

Sure they'll be able to get some decent players but very rarely do starter programs do well in that area when established programs recruit heavy in that area. Another misconception people have is that football is guaranteed to generate revenue when in fact more programs lose money than gain it...

Will be interesting to see but I really don't think choosing a stadium as large as the Georgia Dome was a good idea either but time will tell.

There are plenty of good players in Atlanta/Georgia who would like to stay in-state and play, but aren't recruited by or don't get offers by UGA or Georgia Tech. Those two schools only have so many scholarships to fill each year, and that leaves out a lot of good players. Like I said earlier, GSU already got 3 of the top 150 players in the state - and doesn't even start playing until next year.

Well it's a given that GSU want start out as a top tier school, they won't compete with UGA or Tech, however what can Valdosta State, Albany State, Georgia Southern, etc offer that GSU couldn't? Your statement is also off base regarding supporting college football, their is no lack of support for college programs in Georgia.

Football at GSU would be at the very least be revenue neutral, the reason football would work at GSU is because it would keep alumni interested. You have a football program and you have legacy from class to class, something that GSU lacks.

I do agree the dome is a bad idea, we should play at the football field on Morris Brown campus.

Well for one GSU and Valdosta State generally recruit in the southern area of the state and have championship tradition to rely on for recruiting. Plus with Valdosta State bring D2 they aren't bound by the same rules as D1AA... so they get players that wouldn't be otherwise eligible.

Im not saying it won't be possible but it won't be as simple as people are making it. Commuter schools don't generally do so well when it comes to attendance especially with an off campus stadium but time will tell.

@ JPD

The stadium is Herndon Stadium and was built for the Olympics and is located on the campus of Morris Brown College in Vine City...as you can see it's a stones throw away from The Georgia Dome and located right next to the Vine City Marta Station which would provide easy access to attend games.

Thanks for the info. That's a good idea, and I had no idea there was a stadium there.
