A college friend of mine who I haven't seen in probably 12 years is coming in to town, and we are going out for lunch tomorrow. Her hotel on Emory's campus, and she wants to stay somewhat close by since her husband has to be back at the hotel within a couple of hours for something.

I am completely unfamiliar with the Emory area. Does anyone have a recommendation for something kind of fun outside of a standard chain restaurant? The two conditions are no red meat for her and no seafood for me. Otherwise, I think we're open for anything that's not really bizarre...something simple, but interesting.

Thanks!

I think you should be more specific. What is your price range, and what kind of restaurant (cuisine) would you prefer to eat at??

I would recommend the following:
Shorty's
The Vortex
Rathbun
Parish
Sotto Sotto
Two Urban Licks
Bagel Palace
Floataway Cafe
Flying Biscuit

I am choosing restaurants in the Emory area:

Second vote for Shorty's. Shorty’s Pizza - Tucker, GA - Decatur, GA They have a location in the Emory area.

Top Spice Thai and Malaysian Cuisine

Just head over to Decatur and you'll have tons of choices. You can research them tonight or just wander around until something hits your fancy:

Decatur Shopping, Dining & Services: Restaurants

Watershed is yummy
Taqueria del Sol is nice

There are really tons of places and y'all can walk around and window shop while you catch up.

I want to give a shout out for Osteria 822 (or is that 832?) over in Virginia-Highland on N Highland. Very, very good food. Italian.

We only planned this two days ago, and she's been traveling since, so I haven't gotten much detail. I think budget-wise, we'd be looking at $10-$20 per person, like Vortex-like budget. As far as cuisine style, no real preference. Leaving it open to all kinds of things...

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

Leon's Full Service (a old converted service station) in Decatur is new and already quite popular; the Brick Store Pub folks opened it and it has a great patio area. It's at the corner of Church and E Ponce de Leon.

If you're looking for stuff in the immediate Emory area there's:
Saba
Rise n Dine (amazing breakfast food but they close at 3)--which fits your budget nicely.

and then in Toco Hills there's a new pizza place called Maddio's that does custom-made pizza, it's quite good and pretty cheap.
