I looked at mattress sets from a dealer on craigslist who had a warehouse. I actually went to the warehouse, which doubled as a showroom, and saw the sets for myself. All were sealed in the plastic and had tags still on, etc.

I asked him how he got the mattresses and he said they were overstock from mattress stores and that he could offer such low prices because his only overhead was warehouse space and advertising. He was legit. But, I didn't buy from him because he didn't have what I was looking for. I ended up getting a great Serta Perfect Sleeper (my favorite bed brand) for a good price from Big Lots.

So, don't be scared... just be wise.

Has anyone bought a mattress from a dealer like this on Craigslist and what was your experience like?

Do you think I should stay away? The prices seem too good to be true...

Well, just note that it doesn't take much to heat-seal something to look "new", and most of us leave our tags on the mattresses, so it's not uncommon to find a used one with tags. And again, sometimes they re-cover them (tags and all).

Not saying the guy you met up with was a fraud. I'm sure there ARE people who get overstocks and stuff like that. Still, these days you just never know.

Default buying mattresses

Well it only takes one warehouse overstocked going bankrupt for someone to get a super deal on a bunch of beds or lawnmowers or overcoats. I know people who have had to reduce merchandise to meet a bank note and they slashed prices to lessthan what they paid.

There are two things I won't buy off of craigslist: underwear and mattresses.
