Hi!!

Can anyone tell me about their experiences living in Lawrenceville, Ga? I'm a single female professional (white) and looking for a place to the east of Atlanta that will provide a good social life & opportunity to mingle with other single professionals...I prefer to live in a well-educated area.. Also, Is it a nice welcoming community, or is it pretty conservative? Is it easy to meet people there (specifically, other professionals)? Does it have a nice park where you can work out? BTW, I currently live in Colorado, and was wondering if summers in that area are indeed unbearable to the point you cannot be outside?

I have so many questions... any help will be appreciated!

Lawrenceville, GA>>>
Lawrenceville, Georgia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think you could find other professionals with similar interests in this area. Lawrenceville is about 45 minutes from Athens, GA/University of GA. It is headquarters for Gwinnett County. Gwinnett county has an excellent library system, FWIW and has been recognized for an excellent parks/recreation system.

The area is more diverse now and the older residents could be considered conservative but I believe the majority would be more moderate.

The restoration of historic buildings is ongoing and there are plans to revitalize downtown Lawrenceville further.

From mid June to mid September there will be heat and humidity which at times can be unbearable. Generally there are periods of stifling heat and then a cooler period.

Lawrenceville is not far from Lake Lanier and the North Georgia mountains are less than an hour away. I believe you could find cool spots if you enjoy being outside.

I have lived in Lawrenceville for over 15 years and love it. There's actually a new development of condos in downtown Lawrenceville, which, from what I'm told, have the interest of some of the attorneys here in Lawrenceville. The name of the complex is Cornerstone on the Square. You should be able to find their web page: www.cornerstoneonthesquare.com Cornerstone On The Square - Lawrenceville, Ga.[/url]

Having said all of that though, I do tend to think of Atlanta in general, as being family oriented, although I know that there are certain areas that cater to singles. (I haven't been single for a while, so I can't speak to that.) However, Gwinnett County, of which Lawrenceville is the county seat, has awesome parks, and plenty of them.

As far your question regarding the weather, it does get hot and humid in Atlanta in the summer. There's no doubt about that.

Good luck in whatever your decision is. I'll add that I mentioned the Cornerstone on the Square complex because it IS geared toward the professional community, and I would imagine to single professionals.

Good luck to you in your search!

Default thanks

Thank you so much for your replies!

I was also curious to know if Lawrenceville community is welcoming to foreigners (I'm not US-born)? Can you fit in if you have somewhat liberal views? Is it easy to meet people there? (ie are there events that help you with this?)

Gwinnett county has a diverse population--and has taken a progressive approach to growth and development.

Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce

The Hispanic population is increasing in the Lawrenceville area. There are also many Asians and other ethnic groups.

Whatever your interests are I believe you would find opportunities to connect with others. The University of Georgia is less than an hour away and many commute daily to work there or attend school there.

You might find further FYI in the links I posted previously.

This one looked good>>>

If you enjoy outdoor activities/sports check out the programs offered by the Parks and Recreation Department.

I lived in Larryville for 3.5 years and I'd classify it as firmly conservative and almost 100% family-centric.

Now, I am not calling the people above me liars. They're not. The statistics bear them out. However, I am willing to bet from your perspective you will not be satisfied living in Lawrenceville.

At the same time, though, it's a pretty decent-sized commute from the nearest place I'd normally recommend for someone like you.

See, I'd recommend you live in Decatur or East Atlanta, but I am not sure how bad the commute would be...I only ever did the commute into the city, not the reverse.

I would like to hear, however, from any singles out there making it in Larryville. If there's an avenue there, come here and tell us!

As an aside, I do like downtown Lawrenceville. It's very sweet.

I agree with Pless that Lawrenceville is not the ideal place for a single professional but if that is where you 'must' live I think you could find some likeminded people. I don't think you would face discrimination for ethnicity--its not 'That' Conservative.

I would strongly suggest you check out the condos in historic downtown Lawrenceville. There are so many great events held on the square during the warmer months. Yes, many are family oriented, but there is also Artists on the Square, Moonlight and Music, sports bar scene at McCray's Tavern and several dining establishments (you won't have to go too far to get a great bite to eat). Dominicks has a Wine Dinner the first Monday of each week. Rhodes Jordan Park is a decent walking (or light jog) distance.

You are also a short drive from great shopping (Avenue at Webb Ginn, Discover Mills and Mall of Georgia).
