I initially thought SPLOST / TSPLOST etc was a penny added to bill! But looking at the wikipedia on SPLOST it looks like these are in percentages.

So how much is TSPLOST supposed to be? I assume TSPLOST is the transportation referendum. Any other technical information related to the TSPLOST (every county needs to agree?) will be helpful as well.

(I suggest we use this thread for info purposes only, and use the other thread "Passage of Transportation ..." for opinion.)

Yes it is one percent.

So it would be a penny if your purchase was $1.00.

So any time I heard the term "penny sales tax", it was penny per dollar??!! I thought it was a total of a penny on the bill!

I used to wonder how quickly these pennies added up to millions in revenue!

Every county needs to approve of it separately? What if one does not?

Majority in the region wins... if one county votes it down but the rest vote it in, that county can't opt out of it. You can't really think of it as individual counties but as one region...

also, if your region doesn't approve, your income/property taxes go up anyway, and you don't get any benefits. better vote yes.

Wait are you saying that if one county doesn't approve their projects on the list will be cancelled even though they will still be charged the tax?

Also what does this have to do with income/property taxes? This is strictly about a sales tax AFAIK.

No, that isn't what happens. If the region approves, the tax is enacted and all the projects will be built.

If Fulton and DeKalb approve the tax, then everyone in the 10-county region will have the TSPLOST. That's the advantage of having the 2 largest county populations in the region. So even if Cherokee and Fayette don't approve the tax they still have the 1% added to sales tax. Majority rule, democracy at work!
