I was talking with some friends at dinner tonight, and we noticed that so far this year there haven't been any "Interstate jumpers". Unless we missed a news story.

In the past few years, there have been several instances each year where people will go up on the overpass bridges on I-285 or one of the other Interstates and threaten to jump. Traffic usually gets stopped for up to hours, until the police usually talk them down and haul them away. This year you would think with the foreclosures and economic conditions, if anything there would be more people freaking out to try this stuff - but none so far this year.

Good thing overall... but we did get a chuckle out of this story about how someone handled such a thing in China not long ago. Hmmmm... we maybe should try that here next time.

There was one guy a few months ago who actually HANGED himself from an overpass (I think on I-85 in Gwinnett). That was something new and different...

Probably because of high gas prices. People couldn't afford to get to the top of spaghetti junction.

It's harder to jump now because they've fenced off the overpasses.

Yeah, Bears crossing the roads is the thing this year, but still, jumpers do seem to be down a lot more, fences or not.
