Luckily google has done that for me so I took a look. Is this the area you're talking about?
Google Maps
Aside from some junk yards it doesn't look that bad to me.

That is it.I was talking ,ore about the areas off of there like down in the neighborhoods.Go down those side streets. There are shacks next to newly constructed house that are now boarded.People hanging out.Crackheads everywhere. That street is actually near the Fulton County jail.

Are these crackheads?
I can't tell.
Google Maps

I see what you mean about the boarded up shacks next to newly constructed houses.
Google Maps

I dunno. Atlanta has the prettiest slums I've ever seen.
The fact that there is new construction homes in these neighborhoods is actually a very good sign.

It could be like detroit where they just gave up and demolished the houses.

Older couple. They and next door are actually two well-maintained homes. However, swivel the view around to their neighbor's homes directly across the street. Welllllll ... ugh.

Although just down the street I had to do a double take... what the heck is THIS?? Yowsa!

I am a very well educated white lawyer that resides in Vine City....lets put this way....the bad element has moved out of vine city. The borders of Vine City are defined by Joseph Boone to the north, MLK to the south, Northside to the east and lowery to the west. This response does not include English Avenue which is an entirely different animal...although "the bluff" does share the same NPU it is characterized by a lot more rental houses and blight. I own several properties, am well known, drive a decent vehicle and never once had an issue.
I lived in homepark back in 2005 and found that many more transient people roamed through the neighborhood. Most of my neighbors are professionals, some have cameras on their homes, others do not. The area is changing rapidly and probably has the best transit in the whole metro area. Prices for homes are significantly cheaper and one can purchase a new home for less than 100k. I cant say that about homepark-which looks equally as run down and does not have nearly as many homeowners in the area. It is obvious most of the comments on here are from people who do not spend much time on the westside....this maybe because Vine City is an historically black neighborhood. Unfortunately people in Atlanta and the south attribute black people to crime....which is just another sign of the racial ignorance the persists in this wonderful city. I am going to keep on enjoying my yuppie lifestyle and my four properties in what will be eventually....kirkwood to the west with a little bit of auburn avenue influence. Get in before all the gays do....they are buying up properties in the droves in Vine City. Homepark might as well be called ghetto atlantic station with naive college students living in it. There are no deals in home park, there are no marta stations VC has two.....

Yes. Tons of it. Bloods, Crips, Gangster Disciples, local homegrown gangs like Simp-Set (named after Simpson Road), The Fam, + lots more. The part of Vine City they call "the bluff" is like h*ll on earth. It's a no-man's land, the criminal element have total control of the neighborhood. It's an open-air drug market over-ridden with gangs. If you're not a part of that lifestyle, you should stay away unless you plan on being a victim.

Nice to have input from a "minority" living in Vine City.LOL.Your post is very insightful. It is exactly mine and your experiences that need to be spoken about. Not just the sensationalized bad stuff.People in thia city are stuck on living in the "in spots" that they really do not notice the things they should because of the packaging and the bells and whistles.

I have been here almost 4years.While it lacks decent retail, and restaurants, the proximity to downtown AtL, Castlberry Hill and even Midtown cannot be beat. You are dead right on in regards to your statements about Marta and transportation options.I have had many student rent a room in my house over the years. Most have been white students and have walked the 3 blocks to the Marta station day and night and at the worst been bothered for "spare change".

That's interesting because the post directly before and after yours make out Vine City to be a beautiful, safe, charming place. Hmmm.

Actually that area is apart of the English Ave community. It is so close to Vine City, people mistake it for Vine City mainly because it is a larger more visible area.I have driven through that neighborhood on numerous occasions so I can escape all the lights on the major streets.I keep my doors locked and my car in motion, stopping only for a quick sec at the stop signs.
This is the is my area of Vine City.

I tried to post the google map but it kept giving me the same one as the other poster posted.Even though I was able to get a different area that what he posted. If you type this in google maps and click the street view you will see my area.(not the previous posters view):
james p brawley and magnolia streets atlanta georgia
