The idea of a "run-of-the-mill riot" is making me laugh. Like it's scheduled for every Tuesday night at 8 p.m.

I don't know much about Vine City, but Home Park can be a petty thief and mugger's buffet. I'm living near University of Maryland, right outside DC, right now and it's the same thing. Rental property with windows and doors that don't shut securely + inattentive students + transient residents+ lots of expensive, easily stolen goodies in cars = Constant break-ins, muggings and opportunistic robberies and a slightly disturbing number of assaults.

While he was a grad student at Georgia Tech, the guy I used to be married to had a knife held to his throat and was mugged late one night in Home Park by a couple of guys who were just cruising the block, waiting for the first person they saw get out of a car alone. Apparently they'd been at it for a while, but word doesn't get around so well in places where people come and go a lot, because neighbors don't talk to each other much. When he told people about it, he got a lot of "Yeah, that happened to my roommate/friend/neighbor" stories.

We also had a window smashed and big bag of clothes on their way to the Goodwill stolen off the back seat of the car. It was stupid to have left them there because it was close to Christmas and the clothes were in a big ol' Macy's bag in plain view. (This was waaay back when you could park on the 5th Street bridge) I would have liked to have seen the looks on their faces when they saw all those pajamas, dishtowels, old purses and used sneakers in there.

So here we are 3 weeks later after the thread was started. An attempted armed robbery this past Saturday and and an armed robbery against a French grad student Monday. All around the out skirts of Georgia Tech campus. This is just further cementing what I said before. These opportunistic crimes will continue to be a problem. There is a false sense of security in Home Park.I sincerely hope it gets better.

VINE CITY IS NOT ENGLISH AVENUE. THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT NEIGHBORHOODS SEPARATED BY JOSEPH E. BOONE. Vine City is a wonderful place to live and many people are moving over there. English Avenue has long been neglected by the city government. English Avenue actually is the closest residential neighborhood to GA tech, but you wouldnt know it because it looks completely unlivable on most of the streets. Like I stated before the borders of Vine City are different from that of English Avenue. Vine City boundries are Joseph E. Boone to the North, MLK to the south, Northside to the East....lowery to the west....but most people say brawley to the west because of the old Egan homes site its own little community. Drive up delbridge street....it looks nicer than kirkwood. Drive down sunset, its where MLK raised his children, check out the Herndon Mansion----the first black Millionaire's home on University Place. I repeat Vine City is not English Avenue they are two different neighborhoods. One is becoming gentrified rapidly and the other is up and down street by street----a roller coster and lost promises and grants given to the wrong agencies.
English Avenue is not a black problem, its a human problem. All people deserve to live in sanitary conditions. VOTE FOR MARY NORWOOD....she is not tied to the developers like Lisa (former cousins employee) and Kasim (lawyer who represents the developers). The developers have made English Avenue the neighborhood it is today. I repeat Vine City is not English Avenue and English Avenue is not Vine City.

Not derail this thread, but comments like this always make me laugh. I mean, sure what else would you expect? You gotta put up with being robbed and stolen from to live in the city right?

Well if you wanna live in the boondocks, thats okay too. However living around people in most cities where drugs are and issue, there really is no safe part of the city where crijme wont be a issue.Even small cities where meth is king ,you cant have anything for fear of it being stolen.
I mean really, what utopia do you live because it sounds like you have no sense of reality.
Personal safety is one thing.I would live no where I felt unsafe or feared for my life.
