Question ATL posters. Why is the Atlanta Jazz Festival no longer at Piedmont Park? I normally come down for this every year and was terribly disappointed last year when it was downtown at Five Points That made no sense to me at all. Now I see this year it’s a Grant Park so I’m waffling on making the trip. I thought they were going to move all the festivals back to Piedmont after the drought subsided???

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone--but I believe we're still considered as being in a drought technically. Things have gotten better which is why they have allowed some events back into Piedmont Park, but I guess they still don't want TOO much wear and tear on the park.

This festival has probably been in the planning stages for close to a year and the decision to have the festival at Grant Park was likely made while the drought was raging and Piedmont Park put a halt to all events.

I've been to the Jazz Festival at both parks multiple times, and I prefer Grant Park. I think the topography at Grant Park makes a more natural amphitheater and there is more shade. The downside to Grant Park is that there aren't as many restaurants right next to it as there are at Piedmont Park (which isn't really an issue to me, but might be to some).

That makes sense about having to plan a year out. Hopefully it will go back to Piedmont next year. If I make it down this year I'll probably just do the Caribbean fest, Grant Park is just too out of the way. Last year the Caribbean fest was nice, but we just did a walk through of the Jazz fest because five points just wasn't the move at all for that event.

Did you come down for the festival? Just curious what the experience was like in Grant Park and given there was all of that rain. I live in GP and didn't even make it b/c of the rain. Pitiful.

Actually, y'all are in pretty good shape after the rains of this spring. We brought the drought with us to central Texas last year.

Wonder if they will have it at the Westside Park when it opens in 2010? Suppose to be the largest park in Atlanta

The Jazz festival used to be at Grant Park since 1991 or so.Do not think it was always true.Like the other poster said, there is more shade and it is more conducive to Jazz in my opinion as well
