Hi all. I have been offered a fellowship position at the CDC starting this September. However, my assignment is only "based" in Atlanta and I will be spending considerable time in Cambodia. I am planning on maintaining an apartment in Atlanta, near the CDC, for convenience. I have never even been to Atlanta (outside of the airport) and I dont know any good areas. I would like a cheaper apartment but not a terribly long commute (I dont mind a little commute ie 20-30 minutes). I also would like a safe place. I dont need a big place. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help at all would be nice! Thanks!

Have you considered renting a condo or part of a house? A lot of folks rent out large homes that have been divided among floors/sections, or small condos. I know the realtors at Nine Mile Trolley handle a lot of rentals in that area, and are very knowledgeable on the area. On the plus side, they can drive you around to view the units and neighborhoods, too. As safety is a concern, you can ask for a gated community.

Everything around Emory/CDC is nice as well as safe. If you could give a price range that would help narrow down options, however. Also, how close to the CDC do you want to be? 5 min? 10 min? 15? That will obviously affect options.

Hi everybody...I would love to find something for $500-$600 (it can be a studio apartment) but I will not sacrifice safety to find that. Like I said before, I dont mind being 20-20 minutes from the CDC. Thanks!

Sorry I have a bad habit of missing little details in OPs like that. As far as I know most of the apartments immediately surrounding Emory/CDC don't have studios and 1 br would generally be out of your price range by ~$200. You might have to look a little further out, but that shouldn't be a big deal since you said you don't mind a commute. As for apartments in other areas convenient to, but not adjacent to, the Emory/CDC area, other people would probably be more helpful than me.

You can also find plenty of roommate potential via Craiglist. Lots of Emory students who live in the area post there.

To an extent. Craigslist is a good resource regardless of your location but most Emory students that want to keep their vacancies Emory-only post them on Emory's private classifieds.
