I thought I would say they were super cool. This was a group that comes to Chicago every summer to do volunteer work in Chicago homeless shelters.

I was one of the lucky shelter managers that was able to be graced with their presence. Talk about very southern.....they nailed it.

They were natives and man were they cool.....they wanted to take me back with them. After meeting them.......I hope I can meet more "good folks" like them when I make my move.

My point is, I know they DO NOT represent ALL OF Atlanta but they gave me a ideal of what the "real" Atlanta is.

I get so tired of all the darn dumb stereotypes I hear about Atlanta.

If I hear another person say "everyone in ATL is looking for a record deal" I'll scream.

Kudos to those ATL natives the represented ATL the way it should be.

Ron, just for the record, I've lived in Atlanta for 25 years and have never heard anyone say, "everyone in Atlanta is looking for a record deal". (?)

There is no one person or group that represents Atlanta. When you come here, you will meet residents who moved here from L.A. Next door to them might be a couple from Vermont, then a gay couple from the West Coast, and someone from Florida, while across the street might be one "native" metro Atlantan and maybe someone from the Carolinas. In other words, Atlanta is now one of those cities where "everyone is from somewhere else", so you'll meet a wide variety (good to bad) of folks here. Don't let any jerks you might meet from here make you think everyone from here are jerks, but by the same token, if you meet nice bubbly people don't assume they're all like that here, too. It's MUCH more varied than most people realize once they get here.

Either way - you have a variety of neighborhoods and intown/suburban areas to pick from, so you shouldn't have a problem finding a niche once you're here.

AG,

I have heard that many times......I never said folks in Atlanta say it. I hear it from folks that haved moved there, got disappointed due to the high expectations and move back to Chicago.

I have even read it on message boards. I am not trying be get caught up in what people say, I am just giving an example.

My point is Kudos to ATL, in case you missed that part. But I do know in life some folks make things more complicated than needed. ;-)

This thread will probably go down hill ffrom here. Do to lack of focus on the overall big picture. Back to my normal "hang outs".

I was just being nice, but even doing that requires some long overdrawn explanation.......life it way to short.

Peace,
Ron

I wonder if what he means to say, young black males (and females too, now) in the 18-25 bracket are only in Atlanta looking for a record deal. I heard that a lot from people up north or west, and yes, it becomes very annoying. This belief is more prevalent than you may think, as well as the reality that many are.

I'm glad you had a good experience with the Atlanta folks. The majority of southerners are real cool, laid back people; they like to make you feel welcome. I'm a southerner myself.

Don't mind Atlanta Greg, he means well. *Whisper*He's a transplant, he doesn't know better. LOL (jokes)

Oh southerners will talk about you behind your back

I don't really consider Atlanta southern. It's probably the least southern city in the south, outside of cities in Florida.

What are you talking about? I am an Atlanta native, and you have no idea what you are talking about, so quit while you're ahead. Atlanta is not known for record deals, or for people coming here to find one. You are confusing it with Los Angeles.
