They won't put Sam Massell's name on the airport, he isn't the right color.. in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to put Hartsfield's name at the end or remove it alltogether.

"They" who? It's always black leadership being corrupt in Atlanta, isn't it?

Maynard Jackson wasn't just black, he was a great mayor and great leader for Atlanta. White AND black residents see him that way, and his name was added to the airport in recognition of his contributions and commitment to the city of Atlanta - not because he was black. I personally didn't agree with adding Jackson's name to the airport title because it seems to diminish the honor given to Hartsfield - who was also a very accomplished leader for Atlanta...and because it makes the name of the airport ridiculously long.

What it boils down to, is that when a facility - any facility - is named, it should be named and left alone. Stop tagging add-on names to it as time goes on and the mood is there by current leaders. It belittles the person for whom the facility was originally named after, and frankly, gets confusing to visitors and residents alike after time.

As I said earlier, if someone wants a memorial for someone, fine, built a new one. Statue, road, library, whatever. Built a new "whatever" and name it for that person. But leave what's there, alone. Let whoever a facility was named after the way it was intended and don't hijack the original meaning of it by tacking on name after name. If someone went in and changed the name of Martin Luthor King Boulevard to "Martin Luthor George Bush Boulevard" I'm sure the stuff would hit the fan, so when something is named - leave the name alone afterward.

Just my take on it.

That's all Atlanta has had for the last 36 years.
Maynard jackson was a master of pay for play politics.

Instead of naming a terminal for a guy whose name is already on the airport (although I have never heard anyone call it Hartsfield-Jackson except official airport announcements), they should sell the naming rights to the concourses/terminals. Atlanta needs money and I am sure the millions of people who pass through the airport represent an audience that companies would love to market to.

"The next stop is the Coca-Cola Concourse...." etc

With 6 concourses and now a new international terminal that could be real money.

What is all Atlanta has had for 36 years? Are you talking about the color of the past few mayors? If you are, therein lies the problem...that's about all that needs to be said.

Learn about Maynard Jackson...Maynard Jackson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You do realize that every politician is corrupt to some extent. Some corruption gets publicized and some doesn't.
