We are possibly relocating to the Atlanta area. My job will be just inside the NE side of the perimeter on I-85.

What areas close-by (30 minutes) have the best schools (children ages 4 and 7)?

We would like to spend 250k and 350k on a home...where should we start looking?

We like the Alpharetta area....where else is there?

You can look inn East Cobb. Excellent schools. I think the commute would be reasonable but I'll let others chime in on that. In that price point I'd look at homes in Shallowford Falls Elementary school. Tritt, Mountain View, or Murdock. Because East Cobb is part of the county as opposed to a town searching for homes from a distance or the internet can be tricky. If you do a search by schools its easier. We used jennypruitt.com or harrynorman.com and searched by schools. To look at everything specifically in East Cobb pull up listings in Walton, Pope or Lassiter high schools. Parts of East Cobb are very pricey but there are some amazing deals right now if you buy a home 15-20 years old. I can be more specific about neighborhoods if you are interested.

The commute from East Cobb over to I-85/285 would be awful. I'd suggest western Alpharetta, parts of Dunwoody and Norcross.

Can you be a little more specific about where your job will be? The NE side of the perimeter is pretty trafficy and subtle changes in location can make a big difference.
