My family may possibly be moving there in late June, we visited last summer and we looked around in Fulton County, Henry County and one spot in Cobb County, I was interested in the Powder Springs area, does anyone have any advice on this city as well as county, in particularly how does it compare to South Fulton? Is one better than the other, in terms of schools, crime, taxes, ect...PLEASE, IF ANYONE CAN OFFER SOME INPUT?

HI there. As a long term South Fulton resident, if you are going to buy new construction, be very weary! Through doing research, I have found that South Fulton's building codes are not as strict as others, which is the reason why so many subdivisions are being thrown up all over the place. Stay away from any Legacy or Homelife Community in South Fulton!! My dad lives in Douglasville and I have a few friends that live in Lithia Springs, so I would look to the Lithia Springs/Powder Springs area, pretty low crime, great schools, etc. I teach in Henry now and I am telling you if you have children Henry County schools are not what they are cracked up to be plus there is tremendous traffic congestion down there. I would say look in Powder Springs, Lithia Springs, or Douglasville. I can atest to all of this because I have lived some of everywhere here my whole life. I personally wouldn't do South Fulton; I taught in South Fulton as well and the schools are not that great; however, when it all boils down to it, you have the final say-so, these are just my experiences.

That is important to know about So. Fulton. I am aware of a new development there which looks good online. Don't know who builder is. Quality construction is essential as are good area schools to ensure strong appreciation. I fled L.A., came to Tennessee for affordable living, safety, and peace. Am fleeing this area in Tennessee in search of more diversity and proximity to more sophisticated cultural insitutions. I am starved for intellectually curious, well-traveled people, who are unafraid to explore different points of view re politics, religion, etc. Atlanta may or may not be that place, but it is guaranteed to be an improvement.

Now as a single, past middle aged divorced woman, I'd like advice on where to invest in a townhouse up to the high $300,000s. Would like a safe, pretty area, not too far from downtown, near capuccino, jazz, trees, with good fire/police/medical, and good schools to enhance investment potential. Where would that be? A particular development in So. Fulton has been suggested by someone involved. Is there any plan afoot to improve the schools in So. Fulton? Any strong private schools in the area? Without good schools, appreciation potential is weak in my opinion.

Any other areas with great potential?

What is the word on the real estate market in and around Atlanta? Is it depressed as it is elsewhere or are things perking up? Should one wait a bit longer to commit? Is anyone here tuned into the truth about the market around Atlanta?

Default Cobb/S.Fulton

Cobb County is known to have an excellent school system and Cobb is a very prosperous county. The greater Powder Springs area is ok but it wouldn't be my favorite place to live in Cobb. I can't be one to stereotype but South Fulton doesn't have a good reputation for being a nice area or having good schools.

For Powder Springs, are you looking at within the city limits, or in the unicorporated areas? There are portions of unincorporated Powder Springs that go to some pretty good schools in West Cobb. What level of schools are you needing; elementary, middle, or high school?

PRIVATE SCHOOL!!!! yes its 7k+ ($800mo) a year, but its worth it!!!

The drop out rates in public school is CRAZY!!!!

$7k a year now x 12school years = $1,000,000 in more income your child will make in his/her life...

Keep tabs on the original post date, folks. Her post was from 4/07 and she said they were moving around late June - it's August, so most likely she's not monitoring the forum anymore for this.
