Taking my girlfriend to Atlanta next week. This is going to be our first trip together and we decided to go to Atlanta. I'd like to plan a special candle lit dinner for her. Ambience and food quality are important. We are in our early-mid 20's, but we still would prefer a relatively quiet place. Could anyone suggest a really good place? Budget is no more than 100$/person. Thanks everyone.

Default Sundial

My favorite place to eat in Atlanta: The SunDial at the Westin. Always good food, great view from rotating restaurant. If you pick somewhere else, be sure to go to the lounge where you still get the full view from the rotating lounge level. I believe there is a 1-2 drink minimum in the bar, but you'll pay 8-12 each to go to the observation deck anyway. Enjoy. The Pleasant Peasant is very good as well.

Actually, the Sundial is a good suggestion for those who haven't been to Atlanta before.

Some people consider it kind of kitschy, but others (especially those who are visiting or who have never eaten 700+ feet up) think it's neat. Just make sure you do it on a clear night. Their web site is here, and if you'd like to read the "yelp" reviews by visitors, you can do so here.

I'll third that Sundial recommendation if only because, in my memory at least, it's a fairly quiet place and you specified 'quiet'. Also, it really is pretty cool to see that great view and it's a decent, attractive, dark (but not too dark) restaurant.

Really the only other quiet, romantic restaurants I can think of in Atlanta would end up breaking your $100-each budget. Dining Room at the Ritz in Buckhead and Quinones in West Midtown are both excellent, quiet, dark and romantic spots but would probably stretch you beyond your budget if you order wine with your food.

Atlanta restaurants, even the fine dining ones, tend to be a bit noisy. Definitely stay away from Rathbun's -- great food and a nice fine-dining atmosphere in every way except for the bizarrely high noise level.

As much as I'd love to recommend Sundial, if food is of any relevance to this meal, well, it's mediocre at best. If ambiance trumps food, then go with Sundial.
Here are a few other suggestions:
Soto Soto in Inman Park
Floataway Cafe in Decatur
Bacchannalia in West Midtown
Joel off Northside and Paces Ferry

What about Canoe on Paces Ferry? - on the banks of the Chattahoochee, excellent food and ambiance with somewhat of an old Atlanta feeling.

I had a b'day party for my DH in the wine cellar at Canoe (10 attended). They served cocktails beforehand on a patio on the riverbank. It was a great experience.
