Atlanta and NYC are very very different especially when it comes to public transportation. I don't think it would be easy living in Atlanta without having a car even if you live in Midtown.

It appears on the surface that the cost of living in Atlanta is 50% less than NY and that is true- if you can even find a job. (My husband has been involved in moving people from locations throughout North America to a new facility in Atlanta so I have been able to compare). One person was making $55,000 in Connecticut but the same job in Atlanta is $22,000.

You need to go down there and spend a week or so. Last month I stayed in midtown Atlanta for a week (without car during the day) and did a lot of walking through the area (Botanical gardens at Piedmont Park are spectacular).

The cost of living in Atlanta is lower than the northeast, but not 50% lower. Home prices are much lower, and you'll spend less for housing, but many other staples like food are about the same. You'll also spend less for things like car and homeowner's insurance and utilities, but again, not 50% less.

I do think that jobs on the lower end of the payscale are paid much lower in Atlanta, but as you climb the ladder the differences are much smaller. In the northeast, unions and other pressures have driven up wages on the low end.

In doing some research, it seems that cost of living in ATL is about 75% of NYC Metro... Still pretty significant...

My fiancee got a job offer from her current company to relocate to their ATL office for a higher salary than NY... I am trying to work on moving within my company... If I can't I plan on staying here until I get something (which as an engineer will be tough but could be tougher)...

I lived in a buckhead high rise for 5 years. I sold my care cause I rarely used it and was tired of the hassles. I had no problem getting around. I lived on peachtree street and the bus ran every 8 minutes. There was a subway statiion within few miles north of my apt, and also a few miles south.
I could be across town in 30 minutes.

Just try to live near one of the major subway stations and it's even better if you live on a main bus route like the #23 peachtree road which runs every 8 minutes.

Well for one new york has become unbelievably expenssive to live in. $1200 for a studio apartment is just insane. Even the outer boroughs like Brooklyn and the Bronx have become unbearable. Unless u wanna live in the ghetto then ny is no good.

As far as a job goes I work for the police department here so I was thinking of joining atl's police department.

Its not that I'm bored of ny....please....there's too much to do here. Its that I'm tired of the hustle of it all. The constant crowdedness. The way it seems to be a black hole that traps people into thinking there's no other way to live. I just want something a lil slower but not in the middle of nowhere

Atlanta is a great place to live, I moved from NYC and I love it here. I live in a suburb in cobb county and I have no intentions of ever going back to NYC. Your experience with ATL will all depend on where you settle, if you need more help try my realtor she is really helpful, and she also made the move from NYC.
