Mercier's Orchards in Blue Ridge is a great apple house and farmer's market. Between Blue Ridge and Asheville - I would pick Asheville hand's down! (The apples are better in Blue Ridge though.)

It is good and for sure a place to go if in Fannin.
B&J's in Gilmer County on Rt 52 is small, top shelf also.
If you love "fried pies" this is the place to go. The kitchen is right there on site and the pies are fresh at 2 bucks a pop. Also have good Okra.
All in all there are not any bad places in this paradise of Georgia.

I'm up there all the time for the second home. If not for business and my job I would be there for good. Love the place just 5 minutes north of Blue Ridge heading towards McCaysvillle.

If you want so good relaxed fare try Blue Jeans in downtown Blue Ridge for Pizza and hot subs in home made bread!
For Good Pub grub travel to Copperhill, TN / McCaysville, GA and go to the Iron Horse Grill. On the corner upstairs. Great Burgers!

Have you heard anything about this--it seems to be very difficult to obtain information that might be vital to safety. I guess single females shouldn't venture out at all?

Hike,
To clarify.
This nutcase was in Rabun County, GA. Rabun County GA is the further most Northeast County of Georgia on the opposite side of Fannin (Blue Ridge)
Everyplace has it's nutcases. I feel totally safe in all of North Georgia. The folks are friendly and the crime rate is very very low. Yeah! you will have a boozer, a druggie, or just a bad bum. You could compare it to Mayberry with Otis or Ernest T Bass for the most part

Comparing the North Georgia Mountains to Atlanta metro in regard to crime
Well that would be like comparing Satan to Jesus.

You will be fine if you wish to come up. Blue Ridge is very forward thinking downtown. Yes, small town and conservative but for example it has it's festivals. Pawfest is huge with dogs and animals. Paws in the Park is another word for it.
The stores are managed and owned from all walks of life. Conservative Mountain folk owners, artists, gay, native american, left wingers, animal lovers, etc., you may be surprised.
