I think this was made in the early 90's.

What happened to the old residents? Where did they relocate? When did cabbagetown start to change?

From what I understand, some of the old residents are still there...and some come back for reunions from time to time. I'm assuming that the area really began to gentrify sometime in the 80s. I had a friend that lived in Cabbagetown in 1989, and the area was still very sketchy at that time. He couldn't leave anything on his front or back porch (patio furniture, grill, etc.) or it would immediately be stolen. It was still very much in the "transition stage" at that point.

It is a true gem of a neighborhood and probably one of the more unique urban neighborhoods in the nation as the original aesthetic of an old mill-town is still noticeable with its stunning contrasts of the funkier, hip establishments and residents that have since located to the neighborhood. A panorama shot of Cabbagetown is even more stunning with modern steel and glass skyscrapers in the background.

That second photo really irks me. Here you've got a nice little cafe with some old-time charm, and some d-bag has to come along and tag the wall and sign and ruin the whole image. I still think they should set up snipers to take out taggers and leave the bodies on display in front of their "art" for a few days- that'd be quite the deterent to other gang-banger wannabees.....

Many of them are still there. A lot of them are dead. A lot of them moved across Memorial Drive to the area sometimes referred to as Tacotown (I'm not making that name up). Some of them moved to neighboring Reynoldstown, but that neighborhood has been rapidly gentrifying in recent years, too.
